Super User burleytog Posted March 14, 2009 Author Super User Posted March 14, 2009 I had two offers for serious fantasy leagues, but declined. Fantasy sports makes the real thing inconsequential. I spend more time worrying about my players than I do about actually watching games.
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted March 14, 2009 Super User Posted March 14, 2009 Your right. All my buddies are in fantasy football, but I can't bring myself to do it. I simply can't bring myself to cheering for Adrian Peterson because he's on my squad, all the while as a die hard Packer fan. No way. My buds were getting a league together, and I bit. I have waaaay too much free time on my hands, and this will give me something to do. I'm awaiting spinal surgery, and can't really do too much besides surf online, buy tackle, and work on my equipment. The fantasy league will help kill the monotony of having nothing to do.
1inStripes Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Anyone read Torre's book yet? Give it another month so it has time to show up on the $1.99 rack. Bought my ticket for the TN Smokies home opener yesterday. Ryne Sandberg's first game as the Smokies manager. First row behind the Smokies dugout. Perhaps I can finally get some use out of the MLB ball I bought in Atlanta 7 years ago and never got signed. Hope Ryno doesn't mind signing stuff as I've got a ton of stuff I want to get signed this summer. HOF program, cards, etc. Its a good thing you have the fishing hookup you have, or I can't imagine the amount of money you would blow at the BPS right across from the stadium after the Smokie blow one, or get blown out. Im just hoping you don't pull a Bartman setting that close to the field.

1inStripes Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 If you don't have company sometime we may need to make a trip together. Last week of July with the Bravos coming to town.
Super User burleytog Posted March 30, 2009 Author Super User Posted March 30, 2009 Opening day is a week away!
1inStripes Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 The TOMAHAWK CHOP will take down the defending champs to kick off this wonderful season!!! Come on Braves don't wait too late to bring up Hanson.
Super User Hookemdown. Posted April 1, 2009 Super User Posted April 1, 2009 I'm already getting chills.
RiskKid. Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Sometimes it takes a long time for the whole truth to come out. This is an interesting read for baseball buffs. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/magazine/03/03/forever.blue/index.html As many of you know I am a Yankee fan (although I have given up on MLB until Selig and Fehr are gone). My Dad was a Giant fan and had the Dodgers and Giants not left I probably would have been a Giant fan instead of the Yankees. Heck, the Mets wouldn't even exist and Muddy would be a happy Dodger fan. When they left Dad turned his allegiance to the only NY team and those were the games he took me to when I was a kid. I guess this goes to show that politics and pro sports were really not that much different back then.
Daniel A. Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Just a few more days...Any predictions now that Spring Training is coming to an end?
Super User Tin Posted April 3, 2009 Super User Posted April 3, 2009 Phillies and Tampa will not be what they were. I'm still in shock about how just Tampa let people go. Red Sox/ Yankee will play in the ALC, and the Dodgers/Mets in the NLC.... Manny will come back to Boston in the World Series.

Daniel A. Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 As Phil Collins sang, tonight's the night! Baseball is back!!! My predictions: - Manny will tank it sometime in the season - Tampa will not repeat their success from last year - New York will eat both Manuel and Girardi - The book about A-rod will distract him throughout the season I'm not certain about division winners or anything like that. A lot can happen through 162 games.
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted April 6, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted April 6, 2009 Tampa will repeat as AL east champs again this year. Our pitching is better, defense is the same and the offense will be better.
Super User Tin Posted April 6, 2009 Super User Posted April 6, 2009 Phillies and Tampa will not be what they were. I'm still in shock about how just Tampa let people go. Red Sox/ Yankee will play in the ALC, and the Dodgers/Mets in the NLC.... Manny will come back to Boston in the World Series. Who did Tampa dump, I couldn't find anything about it? The best player they ever had if he could stay healthy...Baldelli. (RI biased). ;D No but they were a fluke and the first series of the year they will have with the Sox will prove it. They just had a bunch of guys with career years. Hey FishinDaddy, if Tampa wins the AL East, I will wear a Rays hat all of October. If they don't you wear a Sox hat...deal?
1inStripes Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 In reality, looking at the Rays last year, no one really stood out as having a phenominal year, especially at the plate. They can, and will threaten to win the East again. Their pitching is solid and thats what got them there. They don't even have Price on the 25 man roster their pitching is so good, and he would be in anyones 5 man rotation.
Super User burleytog Posted April 7, 2009 Author Super User Posted April 7, 2009 That's one, too bad I only got to see about 2/3 of an inning.
Daniel A. Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Did anyone enjoy CC's outing as much as I did? He couldn't even make it through the 4th inning. The Yankees should extend him now.
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted April 7, 2009 Super User Posted April 7, 2009 Did anyone enjoy CC's outing as much as I did? He couldn't even make it through the 4th inning. The Yankees should extend him now. Yes yes. I enjoyed it as well. Though I have to say, when he was with the Crew last year, the guy was a class act and a total workhorse. He carried the team to the playoffs, as our rotation was decimated by injuries. He went the last three or four starts on three days rest, each game, and dominated. But now that he's with the Evil Empire, well I take comfort in the fact he got shelled. Historically CC has never been a great pitcher in April. It usually takes him a month or so to get going.
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted April 11, 2009 Super User Posted April 11, 2009 Alfonso Soriano is an idiot. ;D
Super User burleytog Posted April 12, 2009 Author Super User Posted April 12, 2009 Alfonso Soriano is an idiot. ;D I just hope he can keep this pace. Sucks that the season is a week old and I've not yet seen an entire game.

Super User burleytog Posted April 13, 2009 Author Super User Posted April 13, 2009 Yeah, well at least we ain't got Jeff Suppan on the mound for us. ;D
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted April 13, 2009 Super User Posted April 13, 2009 Yeah, well at least we ain't got Jeff Suppan on the mound for us. ;D Touche'. That was ridiculous. Made the difference in the game.
Super User burleytog Posted April 17, 2009 Author Super User Posted April 17, 2009 I wonder how long it will take for Lou and Hendry to shake up the pen. Fukudome is playing much better this season. Hopefully he keeps it up. And Bradley learns to control his anger.
