I live in East Tennessee between shores of Cherokee and Douglas lake. Within an hour of Ft. Loudon. I'm not that impressed. Also I'm near Watuga Lake. If it was me I picked North Alabama or Mobile, Alabama. Perhaps Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. But since Florida out of question I'd pick Alabama.

Add me to the list of Tennessee guys. :)

Root Beer, maybe you're not fishing it right, or in the right places... ;)

I've always been a bigger fan of Tellico.  Never had much luck on Norris, other than in the Clinch River below Norris dam, where the trout fishing is fantastic.  You will also hit an enormous striper there from time to time.  Watauga is a great fishery, as is Douglas closer to the dam and below the dam in the river.  You're in God's country there my boy, God's country.

I've caught plenty of good fish on Cherokee. Douglas I've racked up some numbers, but it doesn't impress me. If water was full pool year round it might be better. But the raw sewage spilled in Cherokee last year didn't really help. Biggest problem I had with TVA waters is the lake level. Last spring was first time I've fished Cherokee and Douglas with full pool in long time. I've done well for size of fish by flipping jigs into those laydowns. I think October there was a tournament on Cherokee the daily bag was 9 pounds in a field of 50 boats. A BFL league fish it and didn't produce a bag over 13 pounds in one day. It just hard to fish that lake consistently...Playing water level can be tough than it sounds.

Oh, and the BFL I think 3 or 4 guys had a 5 fish limit out of 100 some boats.

From an old thread witht the same question....

If you can tolerate mid summer heat, Central Tx is a great area.  I live about an hour north of Austin.  Belton Lake has LM, SM, spotted bass, whites, hybrid striped, crappie, catfish and panfish.  Within an hour or hour and a half drive you can also have rainbow trout, Stripers, walleye, landlocked redfish (2 different places) and tilapia.  You won't have a chance at a record trout or walleye, but the numbers are good in all the listed species.  (I can't speak from experience with walleye, I've not fished for them here, just know others that have)  With the diversity of shallow and deep lakes and power plant lakes, you can fish spawn from December through early May if you want.  You'll also have a good variety of lake types, from deep clear rocky bluff lakes, to shallow stumpy hydrilla and weed filled dark water lakes or anything in between... take your pick.

You'll have Austin just south, Dallas/Ft.Wworth area is 2 hours north, Fork is 2 1/2 hours, the coast (Gulf of Mexico) is only a few hours away.  I ended up here purely by luck.  And I don't think you'll ever get me to leave!  I only wish we had musky...  but I need a reason to go north once in a while!  ;D

If you are a hunter, there are tons of opportunities for almost anything you want to hunt.

I used to go down to Columbia during the summer and work for my Dad. We put in natural gas lines, typically in the city. Columbia gets very hot during July and August. I have lived in Myrtle Beach, Savannah, and Oak Island NC (at the tip of Cape Fear). Columbia is definitely hotter than any of these, but I've not spent a summer in New Orleans or Houston, or Phoenix, so I can't say it is the hottest! My uncle is retired Navy and lives in Gaston, he was a CT, I'm retired (disabled) Coast Guard. I would like to be near a military base and a good VA hospital, so I can continue to get the care I require. Texas has a strong pull as well as TN. I may end up just snow birding as I don't know if I can convince my wife to relocate permanently.

Kent,

If I come to TN, I would request some water time so I can get to know the sweet spots. I'll provide the boat!

You're on!

-Kent
