bmadd Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 I agree with Tin. My only problem with what the Colts did is either play them the whole game or not at all. I don't see any point in doing half and half. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 5, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 5, 2010 I agree with Tin. It sucks for the season ticket holders, but now their post-season is ruined because they tried to appease them. 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 5, 2010 Super User Posted January 5, 2010 These are modern day Gladiators. The "season" is what they are (over)paid for and what we (the peasants) expect to see. If it's 16 games plus play-offs, I expect an effort for at least 16 games. Both my Broncos and Titans played to the end, although it hurt me that Denver didn't show up when it counted. For both the Colts and Aint's to concede their final game(s) is disappointing. Quote
Turtle. Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Being a long time Colts fan the decision to sit players and not go for it was hard to swallow, but wasn't totally unexpected. That's the way Polian has always done it. I have to agree with Tin. Welker is 2nd in receiving yards for the season and a huge weapon for the Pats. Not anymore and its a shame. I understand its a 16 game season, but your playing for the post season, that's what its about, that's what matters. So if you can get there in less than 16 games so be it. Quote
GLADES Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Miami is the only team to win the Super Bowl with a perfect season. Why is this accomplishment being diminished by some? The Pats came close and could not seal the deal, The 85 Bears were close and were defeated by Miami. Don Shula and the other old men did something that no one in pro football has done. Is it wrong for them to hold on to that ? I do not think so. I am disappointed that the Colts did not play their starters and beat the Jets. The Colts are a classy team and they could have done it this year. Peyton Manning is the best QB in NFL history in my book. The Fins fans, Shula, and the other old men would have embraced these Colts. They would have been welcomed to the neighborhood. Quote
bocabasser Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Yesterday in Houston is exactly why you sit and rest starters when you have nothing else to really gain. Welker is done for the year and most likely part of next year and the Pat's pretty much have zero chance of getting by the Colt's and might not even beat the Ravens next weekend. exactly tin. i hated to see welker go down. as soon as he fell, i knew it was his acl. it will be extremely tough to win when the #1 receiver in the nfl is out. if an injury like that would have happened to a colt starter, some of these same people who are complaining would still be complaining. just like glenn said: 6 of 1 ............ Jake. Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Miami is the only team to win the Super Bowl with a perfect season. Why is this accomplishment being diminished by some? Because they only had to play 14 regular season games. The Colts made it to 14-0, so they would have entered the playoffs undefeated if the regular season was still only 14 games. The Patriots made it to 18-0 and then finished with a loss, while the Dolphins only had to go 17-0 and finished undefeated. Quote

It's not their fault that it was a 14 game schedule. They did go 17-0 . Your reasoning makes no sense what so ever. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 5, 2010 Super User Posted January 5, 2010 The only thing that counts is going undefeated in the post season. Anything preceding that is what got you there. As far as the Miami 17-0 season.....hmmm. Not much comparison, things were different, and perhaps MORE difficult then, even with the shortened regular season. Not much free agency, no salary cap, less parity, less teams, more concentrated talent. Quote
