Mattlures Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Not realy but that was pathetic. How many superbowl champions have there been? I cant remember who won the SP 5 years ago and dont realy care. BUT I know the 72 Dolphins went undefeated. I know the Pats did it except couldnt finsh. How lame is it to say that the goal is a SB win when a perfect season is within reach. They could have been remembered as the best team of all time and now they are just another good team. Its like the coach was afraid to try and win so he could have an excuse if they lost. Now they deserve to get beat in their first play off game. You know what else I am sick of hearing? That they have the longest winning streak! NO THEY DONT!!!!!!!! They got beat by my Chargers in the first round of the playoffs last year right in the middle of the "record" winning streak. The Pats had their streak throughout the playoffs and a SB and almost another one. They won thier games when it mattered. Its not even close. Tha Pats have the longest winning streak. Now I Hate the Pats but I gotta give them props. I am just disapointed that Indy Wussed out. They will loose to my Bolts!!! Ha ha. And what in the world is happening over in the NFC Saints? Vikings? With the Cowboys and Eagles its toss up. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted December 28, 2009 Super User Posted December 28, 2009 You could tell Peyton wasnt 'on board' with the coaches decision to pull everybody. I cant say 100% that I'd leave everyone in if I was coach and was in the same situation but it would be hard for me to take 'em out and sacrifice what could be history in the making. I think they should've went for it all. Perfect reg season, playoffs and a SB win. I do think we're seeing the erosion of Brett Favre and the Vikings. The offense has done nothing recently, Favre doesnt look good and Peterson doesnt either. I think it's Eagles vs Colts in the Super Bowl. Quote
christopherjake Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 So much for playing and doing things the same way they've been doing them the past 14 games. I'd hate to be the coach if they lose in the playoffs. Quote

Korea_Bassin Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Hey, everyone wants to see a record streak (except for the teams that it takes down). But if you're a Colts fan, you have to be honest and say what if they had left all the starters in and Manning goes down for the rest of the season with an injury. The goal of every team is to win the Super Bowl. I'm sure everyone on the Colts would love to have had a perfect season, but a perfect regular season without a Super Bowl is respectable but counts for very little in the big picture of the season. I respect the decision to play it safe. Well I'm a Colts fan and I think its rediculous. Honestly I don't think the 16-0 season matters to the fans like you might think. Sure its cool to say that but it really dosn't matter much... but why not try for it right? Not too many teams have had this chance, and this is the second time the Colts have thrown away the chance at a perfect season for resting players. Now the debate to resting players... thats another issue. I've read this book six times, and let me tell you, the last chapter title reads the same every time... "The Rusty Colts are bumped out of the Playoffs".  The argument for resting was good the first two or so times, now its just old. It plain dosn't work and our management can't seem to see that trend. The year we won it we faught like crazy through every game.  What makes them think that this year will be different with resting players? The players are PAID to play and NEED to play and WANT to play to stay sharp..... PERIOD. Injury is a risk you take 16 games out of the year... deal with it.  I'd rather have Manning put out the rest of the year with a knee injury than watch him painfully wallow in rust with his receivers and lose to San Diego again (no offense Matt). CJ Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 The fans had every right to be mad. I would have at least left Manning in to try and secure the win. I really dont think that was a good learning experience for the young QB. Quote

I dont think that 'record' is as impressive as they think it is....but, whatever. I think the NFL should shorten the season next year (like back then) just so someone can break it or at least tie it. BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 29, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 29, 2009 Wasn't the coach's decision. It was management's (Polian's) decision. He's always done that to rest (protect) their starters when the standings won't change, win or lose. Did it with Dungy too. IMO, I agree with the decision. Approach it like preseason. Play folks who normally don't get as much play time, try plays that you might use later, and experiment a little. All would be geared towards post-season play. With the right mindset and focus by the team (instead of whining and complaining about it), they should be very well prepared to take it to the finish line more than anyone else. Quote
Super User Marty Posted December 30, 2009 Super User Posted December 30, 2009 I agree that it was more likely the GM (Polian) who made the decision. However, until this Jets game, nobody but Manning attempted a pass. They had a lot of close games that he needed to stay in, but why didn't they look at their other QBs and try some other stuff in the blowouts they had? Quote

I really dont think that was a good learning experience for the young QB. Obviously not. The kid got rocked his first play. Then it went all downhill for him from there. Being from TN, and a lifelong Tennessee fan, I feel a priority to root for Peyton. Even if he wasn't playing for the Colts. I really wish he would have stayed in there, although I do somewhat understand where the coach is coming from in taking him out. You have to remember, this isn't the first time it has been done. It's not only the new coach. This has been going on for a few years with him getting pulled in the last couple of games when they have a for sure playoff birth. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 30, 2009 Super User Posted December 30, 2009 A loss is not bad from a players point of view. A loss takes the pressure off the team and they can play relaxed. No streaks; no worry which player will screw up and cause a loss; no constant interviews with moron media types on the streak; no added pressure to finish the season perfect; and on and on and on. And a loss shows a team's weaknesses that were exploited so they can be corrected. All in all, I like the Colts but I still think the Chargers and Vikings will either make the Super Bowl or cause a lot of havoc trying. Quote

Mattlures Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 My point is.... superbowl, big deal. They have already won one recently. There have been tons of superbowl champions. Big deal. There is a new one every year, big deal. Undefeated throughout and a superbowl champoin ????? = the greatest football team in history. Now that realy is a big deal. At the beginning of the season the goal is to be SB champ but if the oportunity arises for football imortatity you should try for it. They will probably never get that chance again but they have a chance at the SB every year. The colts are an awsome team but by playing it safe it was a cowardly move. Go for greatness. Its not like Payton is injury prone. Quote

Nick B Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Huge Colts fan here, I was at that game. I spent big money on tickets and for them to just quit in the third quarter was BS. Apparently they havent learned from history. I have a bad feeling we will be one and done yet again. Quote

Super User Tin Posted January 4, 2010 Super User Posted January 4, 2010 Yesterday in Houston is exactly why you sit and rest starters when you have nothing else to really gain. Welker is done for the year and most likely part of next year and the Pat's pretty much have zero chance of getting by the Colt's and might not even beat the Ravens next weekend. Quote
