Pond Hopper Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Not sure who to inform, but I accidently clicked on one ad on the left side of the page when I came to BR and now my computer is going nuts. Apparently it has a virus now and its 3 days old. There has been no other suspect searching and it did not start until that minute. I am running malware right now but any other suggestions? And I just wanted to let Glenn know. Thanks. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 28, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 28, 2009 What link (ad) did you click on, and when did you click on it? Was it 3 days ago? Can you provide any more details that will help me figure out what ad it was? I can block it once I know which ad caused it. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 Glenn, I click on the link about 3 hours ago, the computer is 3 days old. I do not know what link it was, as the computer froze, I had to restart and then it all started. What I am getting is security warnings and then basically it is trying to get me to purchase new anti virus software, and blocking alot of my current programs regardless of what they do. Along with a occassional , etc pop up. Sorry I cannot be more help. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted December 28, 2009 Super User Posted December 28, 2009 Two easy things to do to help from getting things like this is to make a non-admin account to use. Only use the admin account when you have to. And use Firefox as your browser with an add-on called **** to keep the scripts from running. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 28, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 28, 2009 Ok, I have isolated the culprit and eliminated it from the site. It was an ad served from a 3rd party site, which I have no direct control over. So I removed the 3rd party completely. Apologies for your problems. Understand though that what you have is malware, not a "virus" per say. It's annoying, but not overly harmful. For help solving them, please go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ To prevent this from happening again, be sure to buy a quality anti-virus program such as PC-cillin. I don't trust free anti-virus programs. Quote

I came home and turned it on. I went straight to BR via firefox and all heck is breaking loose. I opened Tournament Talk. I then opened "anyone fish bass open." I then clicked on the link Riverfisher posted and that's when it started. His link never opened but I'm getting all sorts of Porn sites and security antivirus alerts. I can't even run my own clean-up. I can't even play solitaire under my games in Programs. It's taking me about 10 minutes just to type this because of the stupid pop-up. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted December 28, 2009 Super User Posted December 28, 2009 Lucky for me...Norton blocked and deleted 3 virus's from here...sorry, I don't recall which ones they were. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 28, 2009 Super User Posted December 28, 2009 Somehow I got whacked, work laptop is completely hosed - profile corrupt. Looks like I'll have to reclone the dang thing. I was running up to date corporate McAfee. Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 If I had a 3 day old computer and got hit with a bad virus or malware I would just reformat the whole computer. Quote
I Love BassResource Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I've had phone calls from two different people who snagged trojans from ads here, just an fyi. Both were nuqel.e variants.. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 I got it all fixed by logging in as the different user which my IT guy at work setup and scanning and deleting the issue but it was an annoying 4 hours or so. Either way thanks for doing something about it Glenn and I just wanted to make sure it didnt get someone else. Quote
