BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 7, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 7, 2009 As you may have noticed, the Shimano forum is no longer on the site. Shimano and BR had a trial period agreement of 6 months for the forum. After the trial period, both sides would evaluate the results of the forum and future possibilities of a permanent partnership. I kept the forum up for nearly 18 months - free of charge - as a sign of goodwill. Recently, I tried working with Shimano in the hopes for an improved alliance that benefits our members and is mutually beneficial to all involved. Unfortunately Shimano has decided not to partner with us. Therefore I have removed the forum. Dan (Bantam1) has been instrumental in making this section work for our members. Thank you for everything Dan! Maybe someday, Shimano will have a change of heart and we'll work together again. To the members - I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I had sincerely hoped for a different outcome. Glenn Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 7, 2009 Super User Posted December 7, 2009 That's a disappointment. I see this as a bigger loss to BassResource than to Shimano. :-X Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 7, 2009 Super User Posted December 7, 2009 Thank you, Dan. Your efforts did not go unnoticed. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 7, 2009 Super User Posted December 7, 2009 Hate to see you go man. Hopefully everyone can get their well-wishes posted up for you to see before this thread mysteriously disappears..... Take care man!! Quote
Bantam1 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I appreciate the time you gave us here. Unfortunately you could not get things worked out with my boss. Thanks again for allowing us to be here for the time that you did. I will miss being on this site. I have come to really enjoy this site and its members, even Dodgeguy ;D I will retain my login and anyone can PM me with any Shimano product related questions. I also post on several other websites where I can be reached as well. Thanks to everyone here for allowing me to be on the site and puting up with me. Thank you to all the Shimano, Power Pro and GLoomis customers that purchase our products and support us. I certainly appreciated being on this site. Thanks again!! Dan Thorburn Quote
Bantam1 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I'll still post from time to time. I'm on the web all the time for work so it's only a click away. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted December 7, 2009 Super User Posted December 7, 2009 I also hate to see you go. It was an excellent service you provided. Thanks, and good luck. Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 Not being a Shimano guy but love my PowerPro and Loomis rods, you've been helpfull and educational, you have also provided us valuable information and resources. I feel the Shimano forum should remain under good will and a price tag should'nt be applied to such info. This should be more of a give and take instead of a "what can you do for me" situation. I do hope you stick around and perhaps come back under another user ID. If not, Good Luck in the future Dan and wish you very best. I will follow up on the other sites. Godspeed Dan Godspeed. Thank You Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 7, 2009 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 7, 2009 This should be more of a give and take instead of a "what can you do for me" situation. Definitely agree. It's what I proposed. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 7, 2009 Super User Posted December 7, 2009 I dont understand how the existing situation was not mutually beneficial.... -BassResource.com had a Shimano company rep on the board to answer questions for the membership. Shimano pays this rep to answer the questions. -Shimano improves its already good standing and likely increases its customer base. Those two scenarios seem beneficial to me.... :-? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted December 7, 2009 Super User Posted December 7, 2009 That's too bad. As the God Father would say , "This is Business." Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted December 7, 2009 Super User Posted December 7, 2009 I originally posted on the thread started by Bantum1, so I'll add this comment: Glenn you have nothing to apologize for in my opinion. You have been up front about the arrangement from the beginning. It's unfortunate, but that is business. Thank you for providing a great forum. I appreciate it. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 No problem I will still buy their products. Dan was a great guy helped me with a warranty situation and other items. Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I feel all the laundry hasnt been placed out to dry Quote
seyone Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I guess all good things do come to an end. It's a shame because everyone loses here. Quote
KevO Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 That is a shame. I will still buy shimano products but the extra info Dan provided was great and will be missed. Thanks again Dan! Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 8, 2009 Super User Posted December 8, 2009 Sorry to see ya'll go. Lots of great help and good information. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 8, 2009 Super User Posted December 8, 2009 We aren't doggin Shimano at all. Two business just couldn't come to an agreement. It happens. We are not going to make it a public explosion. We are sorry that Dan can't continue to do what he does best here on BR. We'll miss you man. Quote
Super User Micro Posted December 8, 2009 Super User Posted December 8, 2009 I never saw it as necessary. There was already a reels forum. And Shimano has a customer service number. Quote

Super User Lund Explorer Posted December 8, 2009 Super User Posted December 8, 2009 Glenn, We as the members/users of this website have many opportunities to read great articles, view very informative videos, and to also share and learn through this forum. And it would take a month of Sundays to explore all of the links collected here. I think all of us can agree that this site has helped to improve our lives. But we also need to keep in the back of our minds, that as the owner of this site, you need to make sure to make the bills. All of the time and effort expended in this venture can't come free. As a business owner myself, I can fully understand and respect your decisions. I surely hope that the rest understand it as well. I think we'd all be better off just enjoying what it is that we do here, and leave the business decisions up to you. Thank you again for providing us with a great website. Quote
NewAngler Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I never used the forum to ask questions, as I haven't had an issue with my Shimano reel yet. Until tonight and he's not there!! Damnit! Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 8, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 8, 2009 We had a shimano forum? Never noticed it, won't miss it. As another business owner, I also think Glenn has the right to do what he thinks is best. Quote
CJ Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I never used the forum to ask questions, as I haven't had an issue with my Shimano reel yet. Until tonight and he's not there!! Damnit! Sorry but that's pretty funny! Quote
seyone Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I never saw it as necessary. There was already a reels forum. And Shimano has a customer service number. Necessary? probably not. I know that I found it helpful on a number of occasions. Personally I would have liked to see an Abu, Daiwa etc. forums in addition to the Shimano. Quote
