Hey guys!

Been reading reviews after reviews, thought I would ask the guys on here. Given the price of blades and trying to be more environmentally sound, I have been considering getting an electric razor.

When I was a teen I tried one for about a month and found it absolutely sucked. It felt like it pulled the hair out, not cut it, and it never gave me a close enough shave.

I have been reading reviews on them and have not really seen anything from them that impressed me so far. Anyone on here got a brand they would recommend, or not recommend? I need something that give a close shave, lasts a while, and is good for folks who grow facial hair really fast (lot of Italian genes on my fam).

Never had an electric razor that did the job. Maybe that's why for the last 30 years I've used a mug and a brush.  Nothing like that hot lather to soften the beard.  I only buy blades about once a year, a six pack or so.

I don't think that contributes significantly to any environmental problems.

Get yourself a fogproof shower mirror.

Shave in the shower. Shaving in the hot steamy environment of the shower will give you the best shave next to a barbershop shave.

No sink mess to deal with.

When the anti fog treatment wears off of the mirror eventually(and it will) rub your fingers on a bar of soap and coat the mirror surface. It will stay fog free long enough to get your shave done.

I'm with Glenn in saying that rotary razors are a waste.  Foil razors are the way to go.  I wouldn't spend $200 on one though.  The best razor I have ever used was an $8 Remington I bought while in the Army.  I bought it so I would not have to use a blade and a canteen of water in 10 degree temps, but I used that $8 razor every day for the better part of 2 years.

When I was in the hospital, my wife got me a Braun Model 3612. It is OK, but it isn't like shaving with a blade. I have those Italian genes like you, so it is only good for about 4-5 hours.

Mine isn't junk, in fact it's very good. My point is that I've tried MANY electric razors, and I haven't found one that shaves as close as a blade.

You want a really good shave, invest in a straight edge.  I use a Dovo, have been for about a year and let me tell you - I get the best shave I've ever had.

I now only shave once a week as well.   :)  Better for your skin.

Electric razors suck, no matter the style, unless you have the facial hair of a 12 year old girl.

LOL!! Nice... yeah I have been using disposables for 20 years. Well the type with the disposable heads anyway. I remember when 2 blades on them was a "breakthrough". Now they all have like 4-6 blades. I am waiting for 10 years from now when they got a 35 blade one that shaves down to your skull on the first pass.

They work for me, they do but I was trying to find an alternative that did not have me buying blades all the time and of course throwing stuff out. The priority is still a good close shave though. I would rather buy blades and throw out more than go in front of a client looking like I just started shaving last week.
