VABassin'14 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Who is the best college football player of all time? If you can, support your answer with stats or other facts. Quote
nubasser Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 First let me say I'm a FSU fan I think Charlie Ward was our best ever. But,I really think that Tim Tebow(I'm sure people will beat this comment up )could be the best ever.3 time Heisman finalist(now he may not be the best at his position)but this guy is ridiculous. He's a natural leader, good decision maker, good maneuverability and a good passer.I could give stats too, but setting school rushing records is not really a QB thing. All this coming from a FSU gator hater. :-? Super User Dan: Posted December 11, 2009 Super User Posted December 11, 2009 It's impossible to say. Who is to know how good Jim Brown, Red Grange, Doak Walker, etc... would be in today's game. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted December 11, 2009 Super User Posted December 11, 2009 I'd have to throw Vince Young into the discussion. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Well, we all know that Peyton got robbed of the Heisman. Just thought I would stir things up a little. Quote
NewAngler Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 i've just recently gotten into college football outside of Notre Dame success and FSU failure (lack thereof, really). Maurice Clarrett Fore real though, it is really tough to say, Todays era Vince and Tebow are top 5. Best leader- Tebow. Old timers though. My man, Sammy Baugh (TCU also the greatest Redskins player) Doug Flutie (boston college- remember that BOMB) Barry Sander (Okla) Quote

NewAngler Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 oh crap. Thanks. Thought i had a pretty sweet pull from the 30s though. (saw a clip on it on ESPN not too long ago) Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I prob don't have time to check a bunch of stats but Off the top of my head Hershal Walker Joe Montana & John Elway Come to mind Quote
NewAngler Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I cant believe i forgot about my Notre Dame man MONTANA! Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I'll go with Red Grange. He scored at least one touchdown in every game he ever played in except one. He scored 4 touchdowns in less than one quarter against a Michigan team that hadn't given up 4 touchdowns the entire previous season, all on runs of more than 40 yards. He was as close to unstoppable as any player who ever wore a leather helmet. Have you figured out that I'm a Fightin' Illini fan? Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted December 11, 2009 Super User Posted December 11, 2009 One name could answer your question, and also answer the NFL's biggest bust simultaneously: Tony Mandarich. To this day, he is the only college player to make the All-Madden Team. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted December 11, 2009 Super User Posted December 11, 2009 I would say the guys that the awards were named after had to blaze a trail for others. Doak Walker must have done something to have a prestigous college award named after. Thorpe, Maxwell, Heisman, the Outlandtrophy. I have trouble seperating the great passers and the great runners of the QB position. If you talk about running QB's, Neb and OU had some great QB's running the option. If you talk about passers, theres a ton of those out there as well. Greatest ever, I dont have a clue, but I have seen some great performances. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted December 11, 2009 Super User Posted December 11, 2009 Roger Staubach was a Heisman winner. Served his country for 6 yrs I believe before taking his spot in the NFL. He may have not been the best, but he sure was a positive role model for this nation. He'll always be number one in Texas!!! and he wasn't a Texas boy!! Quote

Sfritr Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 There are a few good ones from recently but what about guys like Bo Jackson Kirk Gibson (played both football and baseball for MSU) Quote

I'm pretty sure there are a couple of receiving records he doesn't hold, but I could be wrong. ;D ;D Quote
