Out of the big stuff,( the hudds, the BBZ's, the wake bait and jr's,ms slammers, etc)  style baits, which is your number 1 "go to",  and how do you fish it.

Explain why it stands apart as number one.(for you)

Thanks ;)

I have not fished with a triple trout yet, but I have tried all of the other swimbaits you have listed below. They are all quality swimbaits. If had to chose one I would go with a 3:16 Wake Jr. The combination of realism and action is just mind blowing.  I have read reports of brids coming down and trying to eat the Wake Jr. Can wake it, swim it, twitch it.

A second bait would be the Lunker Punker. This swimbaits doesnt look like anything special but flat out gets blown up using a walk the dog action.

Right now my favorite swimbait is the Shellcracker. Nice swimming action, but where it really excels is just twitching it and letting it sit.

Again I am a swimbit newbie, but these are few that I have had some success with in a short amount of time here in the Midwest. I havent landed a fish with the HUD yet  >;) I cant wait until I move to CA in September to really give these swimbaits a workout.

I definately know I will catch bigger fish with a sinking Hudd but how can anyone refuse the spell of watching them basses slamming a topwater bait hopping it will be a big momma ?  :)

Too hard to resist the temptation, my number one baits are the Imakatsu Husky Hasuzzy and Team Daiwa Dead Or Alive, don 't let the bill fool you, they aren 't divers, they are surface wakebaits.

How do I work them ?

First I cast the sucker ( man they do land with abig SPLASH !!!, kinda like if you just tossed a cow into the lake  ;) ) and let it stand there motionless until the ripple rings have moved 5 or 6 yards away from it, then I twitch the bait 4 or 5 times with the rod ( many times when I do that ---> WHAM !!! ), no takers ? ok then I pull the bait for a couple of feet by sweeping the rod and reeling in the slack, 3-5 sweeps ( as before, many times that makes the fish strke the bait ), no takers ? then I begin reeling in at slow speed for a few yards and stop, twitch the bait several times and begin reeling in again ( strikes usually come as I begin to reel in ), I repeat this process until I reach the boat or the bait is out of the target zone, then I reel in steadily to retrieve the bait.

If I happen to fish a weedy lake ( which are not very common in my neck of the woods cuz tilapia eat the weeds ) I cast the bait, let i stand just like I explained before and reel in steadily over the weedbeds, if I see a hole in the weedbed I stop the retrieve and twitch the bait over the opening to retrieve steadily again.

I just got a 3:16 baby wake and a few mission fish. I just started fishing these larger baits and my deciding factor was, which baits am I least likely to lose.  ;D Wakebaits float so thats a no brainer, and the mission fish is pretty much weedless. I have been out twice throwing these baits and no fish yet, but I am confident that these are quality baits, and it will take me a bit to understand what makes the fish bite.

good luck

I second the mission fish. Great bait that is pretty weedless and has great action. Also, is repairable with plastic glue or burner. My go to big bait. I also throw BBZs with success but the mission fish is so much easier to throw all day and with just as good of results.

Excellent guys.  I ask because guess what,.....I'm a believer now,lol

I had to go down to Cape Cod yesterday to meet the host of the Mass CAST event in Aug.  He wanted to show me the facility/lake and guess what,....these are all he throws.

So we started on a wind blown bank,....I declined the offer of one of his rods and threw my trusty jig.

About 20 minutes in, he is bringing the bait by me (rear of boat) and, right at the boat, two 5-6 lb fish bounced off each other right behind it.  20 minutes later, he has a nice 6.5 on.

Gimme that other rod please.

Stayed true, threw it about 2 hrs with 2 rolls on it (His was a bbz-1 mine was a jackall)  then I got mine.  3.5 lbs BUT,....what a hit.  I'm sold.  Dirk asked me to go today, I couldn't,.....I don't have a BBZ-1 yet, lol.  Heading to the shop here in Seekonk mass, Bills, going to grab one, he has them in stock.

Report to follow I hope.  ;)

Thanks again guys, keep the replies coming, looking to learn a bit here.

Nice! I like the BBZ-1. It is the best swimabit for the money IMO. The Jackall monster jack is nice too, but I have heard issues of the paint chipping.

Buying swimbaits is addictive. I just ordered another 3:16 wake Jr. ;)

Hence my screen name :)

Y'all KNOW you'll never see me spend $80 on a bait unless it's cooking dinner ......................................and breakfast :)

I have my buddy looking into making them in his factory, we need one to copy, I'm thinking the BBZ.

Please, no "knock off" tangents, they wont be for sale.  He's a saltwater striper fisherman, I showed him the BBZ video and he's hooked, just looking to save dough.

Spending the $40 for 1 to copy is gonna kill me as it is,...so not Low Budget.
