Big Mike in Fl Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 anyone had to deal with this at one time or another? you know the same thing that Eli manning has been dealing with all season. A strained tendon between the toes and heel. I've been dealing with it for a few months now and it really gets annoying. anyone have any tips/ treatments to help it. I've been using a "donut" in the heel of my shoe but that seems aweful uncomfortable and doesn't seem to help much. Quote
Shad_Master Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I had this a couple of years ago and went to my Doctor because I could hardly walk - he referred me to a Podiatrist (sp?) who gave me prescription inserts - one set for my dress shoes and one set for my casual shoes - it stopped it immediately. You might want to check it out. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted December 2, 2009 Super User Posted December 2, 2009 Have gone through 2 bouts of it now. Once in high school (during football season) in which I got a cortizone shot for. Helped but was still pretty uncomfortable. Then once again this summer. Started becoming uncomfortable in May and it's just now starting to feel somewhat normal again. I got the Dr. Schol's inserts specifically designed for planter fascitis and they provided quite a bit of relief. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted December 3, 2009 Super User Posted December 3, 2009 Have you consulted a doctor about it yet ? Quote
Super User Marty Posted December 3, 2009 Super User Posted December 3, 2009 Try a search and you'll find plenty of information. Here's one reliable source: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/plantar-fasciitis/DS00508 Quote
Super User VolFan Posted December 3, 2009 Super User Posted December 3, 2009 Freeze a roll of nickels and roll that on the floor with the arch of your foot and moderate pressure for a few minutes a few times a day. The coolness reduces the inflammation and the movement stretches the tendons. It works pretty nice for $4 physical therapy. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 3, 2009 Super User Posted December 3, 2009 I've had it in the past. There are several good stretching exercises that will stretch out those tendons in the foot that stretch across the heel. Quote
moby bass Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Yes, the exercises work, if you can discipline yourself to do them. I couldn't. What worked better for me were cortisone shots in each heel. It wasn't nearly as bad as you might think and the relief was almost immediate, for me anyway. I also wore what is called a night splint on my right foot for a while. Its like a boot with a lot of velcro tabs and it keeps your foot bent at a 90 degree angle to stretch the tendons. The last pair of orthotics I got did not fit right and through my bio mechanics all out of whack. I shopped for a good pair of casual shoes with good built in arch supports and wore them all summer with no problems. You can order the night splints online for a lot less than what I paid for mine through a doctor. Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Have you consulted a doctor about it yet ? Have not, no health insurance... so a doctor and a podiatrist would be awefully tough on the wallet. I'll have to try some of the stretching, and exercises. I've done lots of searching about it on webmd and other sources online, just wanted to hear some personal experiences from others. Quote

Doesn't that just get Jelly everywhere???? : Seriously, try to locate some of those shoe inserts that were advertised on an infomercial. I hear they really work for this issue Quote
