Super User Root beer Posted November 30, 2009 Super User Posted November 30, 2009 If you remember my post a while back where I spilled peach juice on my laptop..well I think a damage from it is starting to show itself.. I'm having problem with battery and charger. I notice for 5 straight days my laptop would be plug up, but the battery indicator on the screen says 5% not charging.. So, I went to the boot menu and it says my battery is working normal and is in perfect health. I then borrow my friend's charger (we have same laptop) and I plugged it up, it says 5% charging. So, I thought okay, my charger all mess up.. So I then plug my charger back up to do some work, and I then immediately realized my laptop is somehow charging after going a week being plugged up saying "not charging"... Within flash it 100% charged. :-? So, I left it unplug and went out to eat, I come back and wake up my laptop it says 98% remaining, then first thing I clicked on, my laptop immediately dies. So, I plugged charger back up and it says 2% health and charging. Anyone have any idea why my laptop battery and charger is acting funky? I'm actually do some work on it over next few days unplug see how long it takes battery to drain and see if it charges back up. But it just strange how I plugged my friends charger up and it started charging again, where before it wouldn't charge at all... :-? Corrosive plug from the peach perhaps? As I typed this whole post, my battery gone from 100% to 96% within 5 minutes....It first said 3 hours remaining then 2 hours and 53, now it says 3 hours..It so weird.... Edit: After I posted this, my battery health was 95% when I plugged it back up, it immediately said 100% fully charged... Something is not right... Quote
VolFan Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 You probably have a bad battery. Please insert $200. How old is the laptop/battery? Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Sounds like a battery problem, but I have a Dell and within the first few months I had it, it would say Blank% Not Charging. It ended up being the charger. May want to try a new charger from ebay first. Make sure you buy an OEM charger. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted November 30, 2009 Author Super User Posted November 30, 2009 How come my boot menu says the battery is in good health? The battery is almost 2 years old. The laptop is same age. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 It could be damage to the board from the spilled liquid. Take the battery out and clean the connections very good with a q-tip. Run a battery diagnostic test from the bios/manufacturer recovery module you may also be able to do this from within windows also. Also you could try turning off all alerts and notifications that the computer should shut down or go to stand by when the battery gets to a certain discharge level so you can completely run the battery down to zero. Super User Root beer Posted November 30, 2009 Author Super User Posted November 30, 2009 Where will I find the battery diagnostic test? Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 It all depends on your particular make of laptop. I would do a Google search. Quote
VolFan Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Dell makes the batteries to last about 1.5 to two years; we just had to replace my wife's on her work laptop. She had the exact same problem. Says it's charging and tehn 99-100% battery when plugged in and there's good current going through the battery, but then dies a few seconds after you pull the cord. Quote
