Super User FishTank Posted January 17, 2007 Super User Posted January 17, 2007 I have not had a chance to try these yet but I just saw them for the first time at Gander Mountain. The sales guy said they can't keep them in stock. I was thinking of buying a couple bags and wanted to know if these things are as good as the sales guy hyped them and what are the best colors. Quote
Shad_Master Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 These were really hot a couple of years ago, and there are lots of knock-offs on the market now. There are several ways to use them and I am sure I won't include them all. I fish them T-rigged, C-rigged and as a jig trailer. All the colors work at one time or another, but I had a unique experience a couple of years ago in a tournament. I had been fishing all day from the back of the boat and not getting much action. My boater caught a pretty nice bass and I asked to take a look at it - opened his mouth and saw blue crawdad pinchers down in his gullet. Pulled out a Sweet Beaver (I think the color was "sprayed grass" or something like that) that had that same color of blue and started hitting 'em right away. This last year I fished on that lake for the first time since that tournament, went to that area, tied on a SB (same color) and caught one on my first cast. Try 'em - you'll like 'em. Quote
Hawgin Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 This style of bait is probably my current #1 favorite plastic bait. My favorite way to use it is t-rigged with a 1/4 oz tungsten bullet weight as a flippin' bait. I think it can be fished anywhere a jig is fished for a slower falling presentation. I've also used it on a c-rig, and the smallie beaver (3.5") works on a shaky head presentation. I must say that I do like the Berkley version better. It's called the beast. The body has a bigger profile, and it seems to be a softer plastic. I've had a better hook up ration with the beast. Quote
Clayton Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I LOVE REACTION INNOVATIONS!!!!!!!! I use them all the time, texas style, carolina, as pigs on my jigs, through lily pads. Plus you got to love the name! Quote
Lightninrod Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I've caught Bass using them as a jig trailer. And here's another one. They work even better T-rigged IMO. I've also caught some with a similar bait, the Paca Craw. Here's another Paca Craw, T-rigged Bass. Dan Quote
Infidel. Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 They're my favorite jig trailer right now. Quote
shtuka Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I fish them weightless rig them like the worm with hefty hook and just let them sink/swirl on loose line. My best color was spring break. Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted January 18, 2007 Super User Posted January 18, 2007 Fish Tank- They are as good as advertised, as you can tell by the comments made here. Good bulkly bait that I do like to throw Texas rigged. The bass just eat 'em when they are feeding on crawdads, just like Shad Master said, and it's an option to throwing the jig. Quote
gatrboy53 Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 very versatile, can be fished any way you want.they are better for me in the summer when you want a bulky profile bait.i mainly use them as a flippin bait in summer.black/bluew/silver glitter,or watermelom red w/ gold glitter Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 18, 2007 Super User Posted January 18, 2007 For years I 've fished with them, they make great jig trailers, you can fish them any way you want. If you want a different presentation rig them by inserting the hook between the flaps, then t rig them and screw in a Florida weight in the tail, the bait will sink away from you if you let it fall on a slightly slack line...........and there it goes, another tip from my pocket of dirty and nasty tricks. : Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 19, 2007 Author Super User Posted January 19, 2007 Thanks for all the info guys. I went back to Gander Mountain and purchased a couple of bags in the 4.20 size in the Penetration and Spring Break color. They had almost cleared a whole endcap of these baits. The sales guy said that this was their second shipment since Jan. 1. They can't keep them in stock. I can't wait to try them out. I have used the Gambler Ugly Otter a couple of times and have done OK so I hope it produces as well or even better. Quote
cwen Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 They are the real deal my friend. One of those every few years baits like a senko. I even invested in a mold and started pouring them myself because I go through so many of them. Quote
