llPa1nll Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Congrats to the NYYs for a WS win. I do wonder though if there will be a salary cap for MLB. I mean dont get me wrong the team I pull for I think is second in spending so they are guilty as well. However out of all of the MLB teams there are only 10 or so teams that have the money to be competitive to win the WS. Seriously, how much of a chance do the Pirates or Royals have? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 5, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 5, 2009 Exactly the reason why I don't care for MLB. There's little-to-no chance for any team to compete outside the elite few. *YAWN!* Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 5, 2009 Super User Posted November 5, 2009 Its a good day for the Evil Empire ;D Seriously, this was a great series to watch. I love good pitching, and it was a stellar display of great pitching. It was a treat to see Pedro get beat twice, despite him pitching well. I think if Cliff Lee could have pitched effectively on short rest, Phillies might have won. We'll never know.... Quote

Super User K_Mac Posted November 5, 2009 Super User Posted November 5, 2009 I was just reading the list of MLB team payrolls and one thing is painfully obvious: the disparity between the haves and have nots is huge. The Yanks payroll is $201,449,289. The Mets are number two on the list at $135,773,988, a difference of $65,675,301. The Phillies are number 7 at $113,004,046. The difference between the 2 WS teams is $88,444,243. That difference is almost exactly the total payroll of the Cardinals, who are number 13 (of 30) on the list. In spite of these ridiculous differences in payroll, the WS was great entertainment this year IMHO. I also believe that unless something is done to level the playing field, the game that I also love is in real trouble. Quote
Pez Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 BOO! LoL God i hate the Yankees. Stop Hating!!! Quote

They finally changed their philosophy. Rather than picking up every big name simply because the guy was available, they went after what they needed. In the past it was, 'Oh, Abreu is available...stick him in right." The Yanks went after any stud they could at trading deadlines and such, and screwed their farm clubs in the process. This is why it took them nine years to figure it out. Either way, must be nice to have the kind on dough to tinker around like that year in, and year out. : Quote

This year is a crappy market, the only good names are Jason Bay, Holliday, and John Lackey. But I can definitely see them going after Lackey because they need a number 3 or 4 starter depending on if they resign Pettite and Joba is clearly not a starter yet. Quote
