ArcticCat500 Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 and Yogi has 10, the most any single PLAYER, all with the Yanks, and the Crow helped them win I believe 16 as a player and a coach. The Yanks have a long history of winning championships and some of the most winning players. Love them or hate them, you still have to respect them. ;D Tin it may just take the Sox another 86 years to pull of their next too Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted November 2, 2009 Super User Posted November 2, 2009 It looks like the Yanks may continue that winning tradition. They just keep coming at you-a powerful line up and great pitching. I'm still rooting for the Phillies though... Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Yankees have always been a late innings team, or atleast as long as I can remember, hats off to Damon for keeping them alive. And no can say they're not throwing it at A-Rod, thats just BS. Quote
seyone Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 What would be their motivation for throwing at Aroid? Remember, he was striking out almost every at bat prior to getting plunked. Quote

Trust me, as a long time Yankee fan, A-Rods not on my list of favorite players, and we all know they're watchin him so the jucie is gone....They know he can still do some serious damage as he proved in the top of the 9th last night. ;D Quote

Super User K_Mac Posted November 2, 2009 Super User Posted November 2, 2009 I still don't think they were trying to hit him. I don't either. Intimidation is a part of the game but to intentionally hit him in the situations they have doesn't make sense to me. The book is to pitch him in, and that's what they are doing. Their failure to execute has just served to make him angry and now he seems determined to make them pay... The games have been fun to watch. Not having a dog in the hunt makes it easier to just enjoy the game. I don't care what anyone says, baseball is still the best game in town. 8-) Quote

These are the best of the best, they drop that ball where they want it, and brush some one back is one thing but to hit them like they did A-Rod, c'mon guys, open the eyes. Quote
seyone Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 If you remember Blanton started the game erratic at best. He was missing on a lot of his pitches including the inside pitch that hit A Rod Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted November 2, 2009 Super User Posted November 2, 2009 AC500 I was thinking about your posts and it occurred to me that if my Cards had made the series, and Pujols was hit 3 times in 2 games I would feel just like you. Whether it is intentional or not, when your big guy is being hit it's a problem. Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I don't think Aroid did anything any of the times he were hit to get out fo the way of the ball, whether or not intentional... I know when I played ball, if a ball was thrown at me, i got out fo the way of it...I'd have rather gotten a hit, then walked HBP... just the way I saw it. Quote

Yea, but when you played I'm guessing the guys wern't throwing 90-95 MPH. I dodged the ball in little league when it was coming my way too. ;D Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 if the players are able to move their entire body in the hitting motion, and drive the ball where they want, especially as well as Aroid does, then he should have the ability to get out of the way. What I've noticed about MLB players recently is that instead of stepping back anymore, they turn to toward the umps so they let it hit their backs, instead of getting out of its way. it happens across MLB, so I'm not jsut picking on Aroid, but I did notice it with the times he got hit. and when i played (up to 16 y/o) there were some pitchers who threw the equivalent on the smaller fields, and some hard throwers once I moved up to the big fields...not to mention, those pitchers had much much less control than the professional pitchers do. Super User Dan: Posted November 3, 2009 Super User Posted November 3, 2009 from a baseball standpoint, getting hit by a pitch is a productive at-bat. On my high school team you would get hassled if you dodged a pitch. Stay in there and take it for the team and NEVER RUB IT! A base runner is a base runner. *Obviously that doesn't count MLB pitches that are coming at your head. Quote

That's what you're supposed to do. If you don't you'll get hit in a spot like your face or arm that'll take you out of the game. My sophomore year in high school I got hit 16 times one season, one time 3 in a game. It doesn't hurt too bad getting hit in the back. Quote
preach4bass Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Victorino certainly didn't get out of the way of that one! Quote

Better to get hit in the back/butt/hammies/calves than the chest/balls/pelvis/or shins. Getting hit in the shins is the WORST. Actually, getting hit in the hands sucks pretty bad too. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted November 3, 2009 Super User Posted November 3, 2009 Victorino certainly didn't get out of the way of that one! and it got him on base to get scored by the next batter on the very next pitch! exactly why you take a HBP anytime you can! The odds of getting on base in the majors are low enough that the players take any chance they get to reach base. That is smart baseball. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Why the Yanks don't put one under Utley's chin is beyond me. Especially after all the beanings of A-rod. If it happens we might have the first(?) World Series brawl. The Angels should have done the same thing to cool him off. I don't have a horse in this race so don't get all bent out of shape over it. Just a thought for conversatio is all. Quote

I agree, and I'll bet Clemens woulda beaned him ;D Im willing to take bets that all the Yankee haters out there where crapping thier jeans at the top of the 9th when they started to make a charge, sux that I work 2nd shift and miss all the action > but if it goes 7 games then I may just be sick Quote
