Jake P Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Just wanted to give some more good feedback on the Cavitron Buzzbait. I bought one last night from Dick's to see what all the hype was about, im glad i did. First impression was very good, the action and sound it gave off was unlike any other Buzzbait I've seen and it really is "The slowest Buzzbait". I hit the lake right before sun up around 5:45 and made my first cast around 6:05, by 6:15 i had already missed 2 fish! The first hit was the hardest i have ever experienced, it was so quite and all i was hearing were ducks and birds and i get the lure about 5-7 ft in front of me and BAM! It scared the crap out of me so i set the hook and jerked it right out ofhis mouth. Same thing happened 2 more times and by the fourth time I guess i was ready for it and i got a good hookset and landed the little guy in my avatar. I think im going to buy some trailer hooks next time so i don't miss as many. If you haven't tried the Cavitron Buzzbait i suggest you don't wait any longer. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted June 22, 2008 Super User Posted June 22, 2008 What color did you get. I bought 3 couple of days ago. b/r, char/r, and w/r. Was hoping to try them out yesteday but had problems and couldn't. Post how you do with them over a few days would ya? Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 22, 2008 Super User Posted June 22, 2008 You always need a trailer hook on a Cavitron. Now you know why. Quote
rondef Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I just bought one Friday night and will be using it one night this week. Quote

I wont be able to make it back out until next weekend but i will definitely be going to by some more before then. Not only is it a good lure but its fun to throw and all you do is cast and retrieve, way too easy 8-). Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I just bought one of these, 3/8oz white and red cavitron at dicks Friday night when my dad picked up his new canoe. I also got a rapala subwalk in a sunrise color type pattern (orange/chartreuse) etc. I'm excited about the cavitron mostly because I am used to power fishing so fast in the morning with search baits and so forth and quicker buzzbaits like the boo yah and strike king models. Now I can slow down and get those less aggressive fish and more reaction strikes as the bait is gonna have longer to sit in that strike zone. Will be trying it out Saturday morning. I'll let you guys know how I do with it. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 23, 2008 Super User Posted June 23, 2008 You always need a trailer hook on a Cavitron. Now you know why. Hmm... I don't ever use a trailer hook. Nope, never. So far I have not missed a hook-up, but you do need to let the fish load up before setting the hook. That's been the key for me. 8-) Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 23, 2008 Super User Posted June 23, 2008 I haven't tried the cavitron yet, but I don't use a trailer hook on a buzzbait either. Haven't in many years and have not seen a decrease in hook ups when I switched. If they are just smacking the head or blade of the bait or short striking it, you are not listening to the fish.... that's how they talk to you. You might try some erratic moves or change speeds to see if that solves things... it always has for me. Quote
Bronzeback117 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 When a fish hits the buzzbait, are you supposed to stop reeling and let him take it, or just continue reeling? This is the first year I have used buzzbaits. I am getting alot of hits but they must me short striking it. Quote
BadKarma42 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Sometimes I briefly stop reeling due to the suprise of a fish hitting. When the line feels heavy, set the hook. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted June 28, 2008 Super User Posted June 28, 2008 Did well the 1st time out with the Cavitrons. "fish on" on the 3rd cast. Here's one of my nephew's. Great bait. Quote
Red Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 my PB was caught on a 3/8 black on black cavitron at about 6:15am Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted June 28, 2008 Super User Posted June 28, 2008 Nice job Red! Good looking fish. We hit the water this morning with rain looming, and started casting the chartruesse(?), and white with red blades. It was like fish in a barrel. 8-) Quote
rondef Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Well I have to say I am now a believer of the Cavitron buzzbait. My son and I ripped some lips this morning throwing these. My biggest two of the morning went 3lbs 1 oz and 2lbs 7ozs. What a great topwater bait, I am really impressed with how well we did. My son out fished me using a Cavitron but I will let him put an entry in this thread letting you know how he did when he gets a minute. Quote
Simp Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Nice job Red! Good looking fish. We hit the water this morning with rain looming, and started casting the chartruesse(?), and white with red blades. Super User firefightn15 Posted June 28, 2008 Super User Posted June 28, 2008 Well pops, that's a nice looking fish too!! Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted June 28, 2008 Super User Posted June 28, 2008 OHHH! thats some prime time area to be throwin it also 8-) ^^ Quote
Jake P Posted June 28, 2008 Author Posted June 28, 2008 The reason i was missing hookups was because the excitement and surprise of the topwater explosion kept catching me off guard. Everytime i would get the bait close to me within 4-6 feet i would reel faster to get it to me to throw it back out and thats when my strikes were coming. I don't know what my deal was but my reaction time was incredible, i was setting the hook the second the fish opened his mouth and that was my problem. once i got used to all the vicious strikes i waited maybe 1/2-1 second longer and then set the hook, then i was ok. I'm sure trailer hooks cant do any bad so I'll give them a try. Those are some nice fish guys. Simp, that spot looks perfect for a buzzbait . Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 You always need a trailer hook on a Cavitron. I don't use trailer hooks on the cavitrons at all. Since you can go really, really slow with a cavitron, I don't think they're necessary as a rule. My cavitrons get pretty much inhaled and hooked up perfectly almost every time, I lost a fish yesterday on the cavitron, but only after it jumped... Quote
rondef Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I just got back from Dicks, I bought 4 more Cavitron buzzbaits because of how well it performed today. Quote
