CanalStalkin Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I turned the pc on this morning and everything was fine. After the windows loading bar (vista) It just stays black for a good 5+ mins. Then it proceeds to the login screen and everything is fine. I havent installed anything new, I restored back to a point before the last windows update with no luck. I ran chkdsk with no red flags. Both spyware and virus scanner were ran. Any other ideas? Quote
Super User Micro Posted October 30, 2009 Super User Posted October 30, 2009 Don't worry about it if everything is running fine. Sometimes certain updates have to be installed before the OS is up and fully running. The OS will pretty much take care of itself so let it do what it needs to do to keep running. Just keep your firewall on and your virus scan current and you'll be fine. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 31, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 31, 2009 Does it do this every time you reboot, or just that one time? As Micro says, certain updates will do that, but will work fine after that. Quote
CanalStalkin Posted October 31, 2009 Author Posted October 31, 2009 Its doin this every time. I have tried everything other than running memtest which I will tommorow night when I find the dang disc. Ill keep you guys updated. Thanks for the input. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 31, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 31, 2009 Try booting in safe mode. If it boots up fast in safe mode, then it's most likely a driver issue. Quote
CanalStalkin Posted October 31, 2009 Author Posted October 31, 2009 tried safe mode, it is equally slow there. I have no clue what causes this. I would think if it was an HDD issue I would notice problems even once I was at the desktop. Quote
Super User Micro Posted October 31, 2009 Super User Posted October 31, 2009 Is is an HP brand desktop? If so, HP releases updates periodically themselves. One of their updates causes mine to reboot slower than before the update. I get a blank screen but not anywhere near 5 minutes. If you have an HP, see if there is an update you haven't installed, yet. Quote
