Don't get me wrong I love going to Wal-Mart but it is one of the reasons the small businesses don't make more money. I think we should try going to locally owned places as much as possible to pick up everyday things if we can. All we are doing is pumping money into other countries economies buying things from Wal-Mart. Support the little man every once in a while.

Let me ask yall this question. When you pull into the parking lot does it seem like everyone in the town is always there? Or do you always see a bunch of people you would rather not see when you go in there? I always run into people I haven't seen in years when I go in Wal-Mart back in my home town.

The only time I go to Walmart is when I'm visiting from out of town and don't know the local alternatives.  Otherwise I never patronize them.

Its a darn good thing that we have an alternative here in Michigan.  With a Meijer store in a lot of towns around here, I never have to step in a Wally-World ever again.

It would be interesting though to hear from someone who tried out that "do-it-yourself" funeral thing.  Maybe embalmed in Gulp?

Fortunately, you have the option not to shop there, just like everyone else. For anyone who wants to save some money, and get everything (I mean everything) at the same place, go to Wal-Mart.

I hate Wal-Mart. Full of barbaric people. It kind of funny how people complains about oil company making so much money, and yet Wal-Mart beat every oil company in terms of revenue except for Exxon Mobile. :

There nothing at Wal-Mart I need to buy that "all in one place" I go grocery shopping at Ingles. I buy clothes maybe once every 3-4 months, I order most of my fishing stuff online or go to BPS. Wal-Mart fishing stuff is crap, their clothes isn't my style, I buy my drugs at Walgreens which is usually cheaper, for me. I can get my shampoo, deodorant and personal items at Ingles which is cheaper, and it very convenience drive. So, basically i can get 3/4 of my weekly needs at Ingles. Wal-Mart do not even have the other 1/4 I need. Beside, Wal-Mart full of barbaric people. At least mine is. :

"The problem with the Internet sale of caskets is death is a timely issue," Gremillion said. "When you need a casket, you need a casket."

Gremillion, whose attempt to sell caskets from a retail store on Bolton Avenue in 1999 was prohibited by the state, sees a lot of potential problems in buying caskets online.

"No funeral home is going to accept responsibility for a casket delivered like that," he said. "That means you have to be there waiting for the FedEx man. What if your casket shows up and it's damaged? What if it doesn't show up? What if the body doesn't fit?

"Does a family want to go through all that at a time of death? It's too hard to make it all work. And in the end you might save $200. Do you really want to do all that for $200?"

That's a real problem.  Casket shows up from Fed Ex or UPS and it's damaged.  Then what?

I can see some states quickly enacting laws that free the funeral homes from any liability for any situation that might arise from this and possibly ban the sales period. 

In the end, the funeral home will wind up looking like the bad guy if there's a screw up by either the shipper or Wal mart.  Not fair at all.

The last one is really cheap but the design is a little out there for a typical funeral.  Must be an oversized as it's called the "Sleeping Giants".

wal-mart is the embodiment, and downfall of capitalism.

the current form of wal-mart is NOT what Sam Walton envisioned. instead exactly the opposite... his idea was an american company, that sold american goods at a cheap price, while providing good jobs... with most non food items made in Asia, and more than half of the employees living below the poverty level...they aren't old sam's company anymore.

They purposely do not hire full time so they can limit the amount of benefits payed out, they strong arm suppliers into dropping prices so they can keep their prices lower than anyone else,a nd they have no regard for the personal needs of the employees...they do not see employees as people, but rather servants... a full time employee is expected to be open 24/7 365 to work whenever scheduled (open availability) and if a part time employee isn't available they will dock hours instead of working around the part timers schedule. wal-mart has more beuracracy than the government, and probably more influence over the day to day of this country.

I don't just say this stuff as an outsider or patron, but an employee. I see the way they operate, I know the way they work. I hate the place. at Wal-mart, 8:40/hr is a "higher" pay rate... 32 hours is still part time (remember the benefits aspect of this) and forget if you have school/church/family obligations, if you are scheduled to work on a specific day at a specific time... you BETTER do it if you value your job.

But you know, "you should feel lucky you have a job"

I tell ya what,I'll send you my resume, and you can search Palm bay Florida for job openings that I qualify for... because I've been looking for a year, and walmart is the ONLY job I've been able to find. School is on the horizon, and believe me, when I find another job I'll be taking it, but for now, walmart is it. I don't work there because I want to, I work there because it is the only job I could find, and something had to pay the bills, at least some of them.

seriously, you just hit a nerve, I hate every day I have to go to that place, i hate every time i run into someone I know there and they give me the "oh, you work here?" look. I hate going form a solid $35k a year job to a $10k a year job.

its not as easy as quit and find a new job.

Look, All I'm saying is. If you HATE the place so much. Why go back. Jobs might be hard to find. But with enough determination A new job can be found. I guarantee you. Just dont get into a rut working at a place you hate, wishing your life away. Do something about it.

I hear you Big Mike, my wife worked for wal-mart for 17 years. out of the 17 years she missed 1 day for being sick. the last 3 years she was a store manager we could see the changes comming by the way they treated employees. its not what Sam Walton was about after he died it was more about how much money you could make for them and less about the customers and workers, it use to be customer first, employees next and the money would come.

in the district where her store was they have forced out a lot of long term employees most with 15 years or more. they have ways of forceing them out so they can replace them with managers with less years and less pay.

now that she has a new job there is less stress and she feels a lot better. she puts in less hours compared to wal-mart hour she was required to put in that means she has some kind of life after work with days off that she didn't get at wal-mart. there is jobs out there they might not pay as much but i think they are worth it in the long run.

as far as going to wal-mart to shop that would be a no, we will shop other stores. we have found Krogers has better meat, fruit and vegatables. the other items we need we have found other places to spend our money.

Most big box retailers are operating like this in regards to poor employee treatment.  I worked for Best Buy and around 5 years ago they stopped calling their employees "employees" and instead, called them "organic assets".

Best Buy wasn't a great employee friendly place to begin with but it got worse after that.  I suppose it's easier for upper level management to put the screws to the people doing the work if they take the human face off of them and refer to them as an organism.   :
