Super User retiredbosn Posted October 24, 2009 Super User Posted October 24, 2009 I am now 72 hours without a cigarette!!! I have not even been grouchy or anything!! Before I've always said that I'm quitting, but this time I told myself that I quit period. Seems that the power of that word has helped me more than I could have thought. I've not given myself the excuse that since I'm just quitting that one wouldn't hurt, I've quit period. No more for me. Thats about 100-150 bucks a month I'll save, which goes directly to the new boat fund. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 24, 2009 Super User Posted October 24, 2009 Bosn I wish you the best. You can do this. I have been without smokes for a number of years now. I quit a few times over the years before finally getting free of it, and one thing I learned is that one is too many. Good luck. Quote
uicdent11 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Keep it up! That is a nice prize you are rewarding yourself with. Make sure you put it away so you don't it on anything else. With the prices of cigs here in Chicago, you could have a new boat in 12 months. Again, congrats on the best decision you can make. Quote
frogtog Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Good luck,It's tough but you can do it. Quote

Super User .RM. Posted October 25, 2009 Super User Posted October 25, 2009 Congratulations on being a quitter retiredbosn. I quit 2 years ago, had been smoking for 40+ yrs. Still think about it once in awhile, but only when idled or stressed... The reward is going to be worth it (they say), haven't seen the reward yet... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted October 25, 2009 Super User Posted October 25, 2009 Well, good luck. Seems like quiting for awhile is pretty easy. I quit every night around 9:00 and don't even think about it until around 4:30 or 5:00. Quote
preach4bass Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I can't say I know what you're going through, because I don't, but there are a lot of folks on here who do, so at least you've got some good support. Oh, and congratulations on quitting! Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted October 25, 2009 Author Super User Posted October 25, 2009 I quit one time before, when I went to boot camp. We were not allowed to smoke for 8 weeks, and I figured after 8 weeks why bother smoking? I didn't smoke for 14 years. I started again during my divorce, that was 9 years ago. I smoked anywhere between a pack to two packs a day. I quit last winter, but smoked a pipe for a while, I really enjoyed the pipe, and a pound of tobacco at 20 dollars, would last me at least a month. This time it is cold turkey, I am trying to keep my eye on the prize of a new boat or new to me boat. Like I keep telling myself I'm not quitting, I quit, no more. The wife just told me she smoked her last one too, so we can support each other through this, or get so grumpy that we are at each other's throat, lol. I'm on the fourth day, and I can now eat without going nuts for a smoke afterward, I have it beat this time. The trouble with me is that I really liked smoking, I'm not quitting for health reasons, I just added up the money, and realized how much money I was literally burning a month, enough is enough. BassDeaton01 Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Awesome job man! I smoked and dipped off and on since I was twelve. I started dipping and smoking heavily after I joined and have tried to quit numerous times. I've not had anything for a little over two months now. Just hang in there. After the first week it starts to get easier and easier not to do it. Good luck! Quote
