Super User Matt Fly Posted October 22, 2009 Super User Posted October 22, 2009 Since when has the USDA had Grade standards. Its lore at best. USDA Grade A. What is A, B, C, ? nothing but lore Someone take a photo and post a picture of these grades on the boxes. At the locker plant, the inspector has one brand and only one brand for any exceptable meat to be sold to public. Google USDA Grade Meats. I gotta call BS on this. Same stories have been spread for years and they still aren't true, but to say you saw this on the boxes is a whopper period. LOL Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 22, 2009 Super User Posted October 22, 2009 Matt, they have standards, but the letters are for Pork and Poutlry, and they don't go to "E." Beef is USDA Prime, Choice, or Select. from there, there are number ratings for yield. USDA Grade A Pork and Poultry is what they sell in grocery stores. The rest (Grade B and C) gets processed, and the grade isn't advertised. Quote

Super User Grey Wolf Posted October 22, 2009 Super User Posted October 22, 2009 Aha! Found it: http://www.fsis.usda.gov/factsheets/inspection_&_grading/index.asp Good job. I love it when people are able to back up their statements with written facts. Again well done J Francho. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 22, 2009 Super User Posted October 22, 2009 Thanks. My family owns four old school fast food restaurants, and the term "steakburger" around here stirs up controversy, LOL. I didn't do any meat buying, but I remember all the grades and such. Also, I used to work at import/wholesaler of tropical fish, reptiles, and exotic mammals. The ferret business required USDA inspections (NY State law for ferrets), and they were no joke. I literally left a "drip" of water on the ground near the cages, and we were fined for "unsanitary conditions; standing water." Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted October 22, 2009 Super User Posted October 22, 2009 Like I said, its BS, their are no Letter Grade ABC .... on meat. We aren't talking pork and poultry was we? Quote
GLADES Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 The sausage or steak breakfast burrito from McDonalds pretty good too. Quote
