FishingBuds Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 It has now been nearly 7 years since the November 19, 2002 letter that started the net neutrality scare and it keeps getting closer. Google it if you haven't heard about it. Something like this could just shut down a site like BR Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Honestly, I would not be surprised if it passed. These FRAUDS are taking plays directly out of Castro's playbook, and no one is doing a freaking thing about it. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted October 21, 2009 Super User Posted October 21, 2009 I googled it, if this is passed, then the first amendment must be abolished too. : In words of Patrick Henry "Give me liberty or give me death." Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 21, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 21, 2009 It's a bunch of bahooey that will NEVER make it to fruition. Common sense dictates that. It's not even worth talking about here. I say go spend your time worrying about something else, like the bird flu, West Nile virus, swine flu, or whatever the media wants to beat into the ground at this moment. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 21, 2009 Super User Posted October 21, 2009 i read the wiki article about it and it just went over my head :-? could someone give a brief nutshell description of what net neutrality is? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 21, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 21, 2009 It's an effort based on the paranoia that one day, big companies might one day force users to use one web service over another. For example: Hypothetically, some day far off into the future, users of MSN's internet service will only be able to search with MSN Search instead of Google, while users of Comcast can only use Yahoo and not MSN. Users might have to pay more money for what they get now for free. That's the fear. It's not reality. This "problem" doesn't exit. Free market is reality. Anyway, Net Neutrality would pretty much guarantee that this scenario could never happen by placing laws, restrictions, etc. on ISPs preventing them from doing this, even though they're not doing it already. Sounds like a good idea on the surface, but a waste of time in reality. They're trying to solve a "problem" that doesn't exist. Instead, spinning their wheels on the "what ifs" and "maybe's" I've seen bass clubs drive themselves into the ground by creating tournament rules for situations that have never happened. They spend too much time wasting their efforts guarding against paranoia, rather than tending to the needs of the club members. This is why Net Neutrality has gone nowhere in 7 years. It would be a lot of effort to solve nothing. There are bigger things to worry about in life. Moving on.... Quote

Good lord man?? why so abrasive its being looked at still, tomorrow, Thursday's FCC meeting(10/22/09) will open a 60-day comment period on the topic, after which the FCC will decide what action to take. Just tell it like it is man, I'm glad someone told me about it : you know if its a dead subject then it dies, if it sparks an intrest why not let us talk about? Sure is alot of anymore Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 22, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 22, 2009 Problem is, there seems to be a number of people lately who want to inject politics into every topic, and this one is a ripe target. The other problem, and it's just me personally, is people spending time, money, and effort trying to "solve" a "problem" that never existed. This leads to people freaking out and worrying about a "problem" or "threat" that they believe to be real. Sorry if it seems like a rant. I just think people need to focus on actual problems. Fancy that! Quote
FishingBuds Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 I know what this is about Man, just cause your not catching fish lately doesn't mean you can take it out on us I bet then your a bit burnt on the topics turning political so explains why your short to the point. By all means if it gets political shut it down 8-) When was the last time ya got away for a week? Quote
mattm Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I have to side with Glenn on this one. Too many people want to believe the sky is falling whether they can see it or not. This idea is right on par with the thread a couple of weeks ago that said the gov is setting up a socialist securtiy system in Montana. Take a deep breath and think b4 u believe everything you read. Super User Dan: Posted October 22, 2009 Super User Posted October 22, 2009 this reminds me of a certain avian-named boy who flew away in a balloon. Quote
mattm Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I don't know. That sounds more realistic to me. Quote
daviscw Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 With this internet neutrality stuff, falcon flying boy, and the world ending in 2012, I sure am glad I'm making serious headway on my fallout shelter. Quote
