Super User flechero Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 I've never been much of a deep cranker but I'm making the commitment this summer to give it a serious go. What are your favorite deep divers? Also Bandit 700 series compared to DD-22: I've never seen the 700's in real life so I have no idea if the write ups are accurate... they say it goes 17' on #12 Comparable to the DD-22 but with a little different shape. Anyone able to validate the comparison or suggest a better option? Thanks! Quote
Trent, B Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I havent used those two baits enough to tell you much about them because I usually stick to a sk series 6 or a fat free shad. Quote
hawgchaser Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I am absolutely 100% sold on the watermelon magnum wigglewart. I fish a clear lake and this thing has produced more fish than all my other crankbaits combined. I am using the Arkansas Warthawgs but the storms are pretty much the same. Watermelon is color S10 on the link. http://www.stormlures.com/products/luresdetail.cfm?modelName=wiggle_mag_wart&freshorsalt=Fresh&type=hard_lures Normans, DT's, and strike king pro grade are all pretty good IMO. But try the wigglewart it is a fish catching machine Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted June 26, 2008 Super User Posted June 26, 2008 I use both the DD22 and the Bandit 700. I don't think it gets down as far as the DD22 though. I bought a couple RC 3.5 a few weeks ago. Nice crank, but I can't justify buying more at the price. DD22 performs just as good. I am absolutely 100% sold on the watermelon magnum wigglewart. I haven't had as much success in other areas though Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 26, 2008 Author Super User Posted June 26, 2008 Thanks for the replies so far! Although I don't use crankbaits very often, I have an ample supply of shallow to mid range stuff and only need to add the deep divers... I'm wondering also if the Lucky Craft Flat CB D20 really goes that deep or close to it. A little pricey, but they look really good as another option. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 26, 2008 Super User Posted June 26, 2008 More ideas from yesterday: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1214333678 8-) Quote
djmax22 Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I fish lucky craft cranks most of the time unless I am fishing a deep diver. For deep divers I use a DD22. A couple of my favorite colors: Slick and Lavander Shad. Dont forget about the Fat Free Shad either. Quote
Infidel. Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I use both the DD22 and the Bandit 700. I don't think it gets down as far as the DD22 though. X2 I think that the best one out there is the full sized Fat Free Shad. (Wish they would bring back some of the old colors though) I have a couple of the Flat CB D20 and I have caught fish on them but I seem to do better with other cranks. Don't care too much for the SK series 6. I can't seem to get them down much more than 12ft while I can get the Bombers down over 18ft. I also like the DT-16 which has a very tight wiggle which seems to turn them on during the winter or more calm conditions. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 For buying one off the shelf I'd choose the DD22 every time. Get the Gel coat series or whatever it is with the better hooks, finish and color. Quote
kw012768 Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 D20 are as close as I can find to a true 20ft crank. I use 10lb line and can work the well until water temp drops below 50 degrees. I have excellent luck in clear water on both the white and lav shad. The are pricey but I have won multiple tournaments in the fall and they pay for themselves. I start with the d12 and work higher as the water thickens... Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted June 27, 2008 Super User Posted June 27, 2008 Still a huge fan of old cedar Poes 300's and 400's myself. The Zoom knock-offs are pretty good, too, just pricey. Aside from that, a few specific colors of DD-22's, Deep Little N's, DT-16's and Mann's 20+'s and I'm set. Oh ya, still throw some of the old DB-III's from time to time just for kicks. -T9 Quote
