With all the Media Hype on the H1N1 flu I wondered what the poll would show on who gets a flu shot and who deosn't.

I for one will not, I did a few years back and was sick all winter and swore I'd never take another. I always have wondered if you always get sick after taking a shot every year or would it go away being you keep up with the shots?

Took one got sicker than a dog...worst 2 weeks of my life.Never again.

My dad took one as well, the man hasn't been sick in 15 years...right after the shot no more than 2 days he was sick with the Flu.He won't take them either.

I'll take my Zinc and health pills instead.

I don't go out of my way to get one, but if it's convenient I will get it.  Gotten one the past 5 years or so and probably will this year too.  Work is offering them for free AT the office.

From ages 14-17 I got the shot. Got the flu all three years, and I don't mean the sniffles and a fever.

Past three years I have not recieved the shot and have not gotten sick. I will take my chances.

i have never had the shot.

i also (somehow) have never had the flu.....(guess im fortunate, as i rarely ever get sick..... in fact its probably been 2 yrs or more since my last real bug)

so, as for this one......... nope.

***edit***

i suppose in the random shots you get for school and such, i may have had it long ago........

but never for any other reason.

I, like most of you have taken the shot and become sicker than a dog soon after. The wife thinks I am nuts with my theory. The nurses who give me the shot tell me I am nuts. "it's a dead virus"

With all that said....with a little one in the house. I will get the shot. Better for me to be sick than him.

Every year, without fail.  Not many things scare me, the flu is one of them.  Especially these new crazy strains.

why? aren't they only a serious threat to people with weak immune systems (old people, babies, etc...)

Na, I just keep drinking my glass of OJ every morning and eating my apples for snacks. Seems to work ok. H1N1 is just a new scare. A lot of the predictions they are making are pretty similar to the averages of the flu bugs that have been around for years.

I truly believe that it is all in your head.....

(wow, i didn't actually mean to be sarcastic but...... )

Flu shots have made every person I know sick for weeks.

I get it free at work every year.  From my understanding if you get the flu often it's best to take the shot and if you rarely get it then it may not be needed as much.

I don't agree how ever with making kids get the shot just to go to school. That is not free will.

Two. One that covers most strains and one for the new swine flu.

I'm really surprised by the response to this thread. I would have

thought something like 9 in 10 would say "yes".

Wow!

I did think I was smarter than the medical field until I came a hair's breath from dying. Now I listen to them.

I will also take the shots.

I too am surprised at the response.  We could possibly lose some great members this winter.

From someone who's wife gives the flu shot, it is impossible to get the flu from the shot.  The shot is a dead virus and will NOT make you sick.  As far as I know, the only vaccine that contains the live virus is the Flu Mist (nasal one).  The antibodies that your body develops also do not become effective for 2 weeks after the shot, so you can get the flu strain that you were vaccinated for in that time frame.  It's not instant.

That being said there are thousands of versions of the flu.  The flu shot is scientists best guess of what the prevalent strains of the flu will be for the next year.

I have gotten the flu shot in the past few years, not really because I want to go out of my way to get it, but because my wife has given it to me at home.  Convenient.

For those that "get the flu" right after the shot, you are likely having a reaction to the vaccine and are not getting the flu.
