Super User Chris at Tech Posted September 23, 2009 Super User Posted September 23, 2009 So for anyone who has seen any news of the flooding in Atlanta, either local ATL news or national news, you've probably seen pictures of my subdivision. http://www.wsbtv.com/slideshow/weather/21048330/detail.html First 9 slides are my subdivision, taken from a news helicopter. Look closely in slide 4 at the top, the cluster of near the first dry house on the right-hand side of the street. My wife and I are in that group of people. Our house is in that cul-de-sac, the dry part of the photo. The flooded part is the only way to drive in or out of the neighborhood. We needed to drive to an adjacent subdivision and walk across yards to get to our house. I even saw these pictures on ABC World News last night... Thankfully the waters have already receded quite a bit and my house did not sustain any damage, but my neighbors are not so lucky. 18 of the 24 houses had 5+ ft of water in them. This is the 2nd "hundred year flood" my town has had in the last 5 years. Not sure how many neighbors will stay... Quote
-HAWK- Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 d**n. That is pretty bad. I haven't really watched the news lately and wasn't aware of this flooding. Some houses bone dry some flooded to the roof. Talk about luck. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 23, 2009 Super User Posted September 23, 2009 Any snakes arrive after the water subsided???? Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted September 23, 2009 Super User Posted September 23, 2009 That sucks. Lots of nice homes that will need to be stripped and redone. Quote
senko_77 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Chris, the flooding is incredible, isn't it! Our entire campus was flooded and were on our 2nd day of cancelled classes. All the roads around campus have been shut down to so we've basically been locked in. Sorry to see all the damage in the hood. Atleast that G3 will work nicely out there ;D Quote
aceman387 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 WOW, ive always heard location, location, location. im glad for you that you picked out a good lot , man that water is high! Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted September 23, 2009 Super User Posted September 23, 2009 WOW!!!! You are lucky. Now go help your neighbors. Quote
seyone Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 wow that just sucks, at least you were one of the fortunate ones. Flooding will become more and more of a problem as we keep developing. More impermeable surfaces = more bad flooding. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted September 24, 2009 Super User Posted September 24, 2009 Sorry to see that..lesson #1 when choosing a home, make sure it's on high STABLE ground.. Quote
NewAngler Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 d**n, you lucked out, but I bet you have some friend and neighbors that lost a lot. I hope a speedy and cost effective recovery is in their future. Quote
done Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I am in Atlanta on business this week. It was nuts, I was driving in from CLT about 4 am and got to go through those storms. Did any of you guys see the news coverage where there were fish swimming across one of the interstates? Quote
IDbasser Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 My sister got lucky, she is in Suwanee, and they were fine, kids were out of school due to the flooding. Quote
Sfritr Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 That is terrible. I feel for your neighbors. That looks like a new sub. Good luck Quote
llPa1nll Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Yikes!!. I hope your family and neighbors are ok. Good Luck. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted September 24, 2009 Super User Posted September 24, 2009 Like everyone else, I'm sorry to see all you folks going through these floods. When I first saw the news, I wondered how many people wouldn't be posting here for a few days. Quote
