Super User cart7t Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 Question: I think I'm pretty fast at the ramp, but I do not undo the winch strap until the boat is in the water. I have this fear in my head that the boat is going to fall off on the ramp. Does this ever happen? I notice almost everyone else undoes the winch strap before they back in. Am I just being paranoid? Most ramps? No. I still leave the strap attached until the trailer hits the water. There are a couple I've launched off of that the grade was scary steep. I don't know about a boat sliding off dry bunks but it would be a real possibility when pulling it out on wet ones. Quote
done Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 I would consider myself a very impatient man. That being said, at the ramp, as long as the person keeping me waiting is really trying to be considerate I will cut them slack. What gets me is the guy who is just flat out inconsiderate. The guy who washes his boat ON the ramp. The 2 kids with the jet skiis who actually launched their 2 jet skis them left their daddies lexus SUV right there. I mean at the ramp with the trailer in the water. Now, that being said, I totally understand why tourney guys are less patient. If I was forking over money and competing, I would be quick. I do need me a partner who can drive but my 7 yr old and my grandfather just can't do it. LOL. I undo all straps except the bow in the lot and get the line set up and as much as I can before the water. I actually learned most of that on here. Ramp etiquette is one of those things, you really need to share with folks. Quote

RobbyZ5001 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Everything that needs to be done is done before getting to the ramp. I have some what the same fear too about the bow strap. I stop right before the water and undo it. Some of our ramps are kind of steep and I just feel better undoing it at the waters edge. You ain't kidding!!!!!!!!! The one you guys launch at (I think) was my worst ramp experience. When I had that tournament down there it was FREEZING COLD. The ramp iced up and I wasn't used to my partners truck. I almost lost his truck that day on that ramp. Quote
Sfritr Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 And lets not forget about the "guy" who makes his wife back the boat down the ramp and then SCREAMS at her from the boat..... I want to deck "that" guy every time I see one. Quote

I want to deck "that" guy every time I see one. You sure you were not listening to me and my daughter on a bad day? LOL. Seriously, I can feel ya man. While I am no saint, I never got the whole stomping on the wife thing. Also, that is a brave man there. I believe if I screamed at my wife like that, I would get to watch my boat, trailer, and truck fly by me into the lake. My wife's a lady no doubt but she ain't about to ever put up with something like that. My fav will always be "plug guy". Watched him launch on the niagara river. before he went in I saw his plug was missing. I kept trying to tell him, he kept interrupting me "Son...I know how to launch my boat." (I was 14 at the time and hanging at the launch). So I finally shut up and let him go. When he came flying back in about 3 minutes later, I told him (as my friend laughed their tails off) "You forgot to put in the plug." Quote
