Tokyo Tony Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hey guys, that 9/9/09 thread got me thinking. I remember when I was a little kid, my mom would make me take one-hour naps before we would go do something fun, like an amusement park or something like that. At that time, an hour seemed like the longest thing in the world. Now, an hour is nothing. Since I started full-time work in 2006, the time has flown by. A week, month, year, whatever, SEEMS like a lot less time than it used to when I was younger. I believe this is at least partially because as you get older, any given unit of time is a smaller percentage of your life than it has ever been, so it seems shorter. My question for you all is this: as you get older and older, does the time keep passing by seemingly faster and faster? If so, that's kind of depressing to me... Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 10, 2009 Super User Posted September 10, 2009 I noticed since I graduated high school, times are flying faster then they did when I was in high school. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Yes as you get older time does pass faster it seems. The good thing about it is you tend not to care as much. Quote

done Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 My grandfather used to chalk it up to perspective. When you are 2 a year represents half your lifetime. When you are 10, 1/10th and so on. So the older you are getting, the less a percentage of your total time on earth goes by with each second. I am only in my 30's and I can definitely say time flies MUCH faster than it used to. By the time I am 60 (provided I am fortunate enough to live that long), time will move so fast I will probably be able to see my car rust like an action flick. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted September 10, 2009 Super User Posted September 10, 2009 I remember when a day at school seemed like an ETERNITY and the days felt long. Quote
Other. Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I love this kind of stuff. When you're 50 a year is 1/50th or 2% of of your entire life. versus when you were 12 and one year is 8% of your life. Your life is not moving any faster, just feels like it. In reference to the other topic that's an other reason why I like to think of time as an illusion. An hour spent watching a clock will feel longer then an hour fishing were in reality the same length of time was spent fishing. Just something else to think about. Quote
Big Tom Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I never really though about the age perspective thing but it makes so much sense. Time is going by much faster. Quote
Hoover Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I think you all have it wrong. It is all a matter of memory or lack thereof. ;D I notice that as I get older, I remember much less about the details of each year than when I was younger. Pretty soon, I won't remember having written this post! Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted September 10, 2009 Super User Posted September 10, 2009 Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. ;D Quote

Tokyo Tony Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 Well, just as I figured. I just know I'm gonna turn 40 or 50 and wonder where the time went. Fortunately, I'm 25, and I know a bunch of you guys would love to be my age again ;D Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted September 12, 2009 Super User Posted September 12, 2009 Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. ;D And it can be rough or quilted. Quote
