B A S S E R Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I'm looking to get one of these two bows: -PSE Bow Madness $600 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_104429_450001000_450000000_450001000_450-1-0 -RedHead Krptic Pro $650 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10202048_450001000_450000000_450001000_450-1-0 I bow hunt from a treestand in WI. My shots aren't more than 40yds. I would prefer comments from people who actually used the bow. Thanks Quote
Super User burleytog Posted September 8, 2009 Super User Posted September 8, 2009 Why on earth would you consider a BPS house-brand bow? You know what you're getting with the PSE. I've been looking very hard at the Madness XS myself, but if I'm going to spend that kind of money, it's going to be on a Mathews. Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I shot competition archery for several years, the only thing that represents PSE for use was " Parts Scattered Everywhere". Owned one and never went back. Agreed Bruley, the Mathews in an incredible bow, when dialed in and limbs pinned shes quieter then a whisper and dead on balls accurate. Lets not forget Hoyt. Quote
Tim1980 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I used to shoot PSE also and I was sitting in my treestsnd and looked at my bow and saw the limb split. My hunt was over right then, but because I was with my dad and uncle I had to set there for hours knowing if I saw a deer there was nothing I could do, just watch it I guess. So I bought a Mathews FX shot it for 3 or 4 yars and loved it, so I bought a Switchback and I'm still shooting that. It is the quietest most accurate bow I ever shot. Sorry I can't help you except shoot them both and shoot a Mathews also. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted September 8, 2009 Super User Posted September 8, 2009 PSE makes a quality product. They've improved a great deal over the last few years. Quote
boneil Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Good luck with purchasing a bow from any chain store. Seriously, if your going to spend that kind of money, go to a pro shop, even if you have to drive an hour away. I have never heard anything good about buying a bow from BPS. I have been in the store and overheard some bad info from the salesman to the customer. Quote
B A S S E R Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Thanks a lot everyone. The only thing turning me away from Mathew's is that huge price tag :-/ And I know buying a BPS bow is risky but I was just curious to see if anyone had tried it out. They are made by Bowtech. Is the $100 bucks worth it to take the jump from the XS to the normal Bow Madness? Its only like 10 FPS difference and 3/8" in Brace Height.. Quote
Boett43 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 if your looking used , try archerytalk.com i got used hoyt alphamax 32 for 625 and its in awesome shape. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 word of advice. Skip the house brands. Like Burley said PSE has improved alot over the last few years. If it was me I'd go with a Hoyt or Bowtech. Might even stoop to a Mathews. LOL All 3 of those are fine bows. I'm shooting an Allegence right now but I really like that alfa max 32. One fine bow. Tim1980 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I lost all confidence in PSE from my personal expierence and talking to other archers who had similar expierences. It dosen't matter how much they improve that was the worst feeling I ever had while hunting and can not ever shoot one again. My advice for you is to shoot all the bows you are considering, every bow feels different to every person. If you can't shoot the bow BEFORE you buy it, don't buy it. Hand shock, draw smoothness, grip feel, and letoff are important to me, but might mean nothing to someone else. Ask to shoot them and decide from that not what someone else thinks. Quote
TommyBass Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Honestly if you buy any of the bigger name bow brands you'll be OK. The way it is anymore with the technology they all shoot well. Some are a little quieter and a little faster but overall you'll kill deer. I personally like my Matthews alot but I have shot a Hoyt and PSE and they did just fine. Pretty much most of the brands have copy-cated right into the smaller sizes and parrellel limbs that seem to work good for the tree stand hunters. Just buy one and get used to it, most likely you'll stick with it for a long time. Quote
