Super User Sam Posted September 9, 2009 Super User Posted September 9, 2009 From the 2daves Pick the SEC: The Alabama Fishing Trip September 4th, 2009 Like a bad cold, this story won't go away, and it keeps getting worse. WR Julio Jones and TB Mark Ingram went fishing with Curtis Anderson, who is not affiliated with Alabama. Why is a 56 year old white guy not affiliated with Alabama hanging around two of its star players? That's a good question. The Alabama AD self reported this, and the players had to pay the value of the fishing trip to charity. Story over. Anderson apparently knew the two players before they enrolled in college. The Birmingham News reports today that Anderson provided a laptop computer to another Alabama player, LB Jerrell Harris. When contacted, Anderson had no comment and Harris angrily replied I'm denying it. For a guy not affiliated with Alabama, Anderson seems to have a lot of contact with their players. Who knows, maybe Anderson is an Auburn fan hell bent to get Alabama in trouble with the NCAA. This will be entertaining to watch. And the SEC rocks on.............. Quote
RiskKid. Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 I hear the SEC has hired Phil Fulmer to lead an investigation!! Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 9, 2009 Super User Posted September 9, 2009 Yeah, this story getting on my nerves. Perhaps Saban ought call up some guys from Jersey take care of this problem. ;D In all seriousness though, if this guy, turns out to be an Auburn fan, this is a new low. Talking trash is one thing, but actually taking advantage of young kids in college to get the university in trouble is a new low and they need to be beaten with a bat behind the university. :-X Quote
Super User Dan: Posted September 9, 2009 Super User Posted September 9, 2009 if this guy, turns out to be an Auburn fan, this is a new low. X Is there ANY indication that that might be the case? Quote
Bull Hurley Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Not affiliated just means that he doesn't work for or isn't a doner to the universtity, it doesn't mean he isn't a fan and wanted to do something nice for these boys like take them fishing. What would be the problem if any one of us had been on the lake and saw two guys fishing and got to talking to them and decided to invite them onto the boat to make a couple new fishing friends or introduce someone to the sport? Super User Dan: Posted September 9, 2009 Super User Posted September 9, 2009 regardless of race, i think it is a bit strange for two collegiate football players to go fishing with a (seemingly) random 56 year old man. This is taking into account the number of illegal exchanges that have been occurring in recent years. Sure, there is an absolute possibility that it was perfectly legal but you can see why some might question it at first glance. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 10, 2009 Super User Posted September 10, 2009 Couple things the original poster left out. Julio Jones and Mark Ingram were NOT clear to play until Thursday night. They was actually sitting in their dorm waiting on NCAA to call Saban and let the boys play Saturday night against VT. Jerrell Harris has yet to be cleared by NCAA which is why he didn't play Saturday and he is 2nd string behind Dont'a Hightower I believe. Secondly, This Curtis Anderson took them deep sea fishing last spring after spring camp ends. Anderson claimed to known Julio when he worked at a marina down there (his high school is near the beach). And Mark Ingram tag along. How Jerrell Harris comes into the picture is beyond me. But What I post above is from another news source I read on ESPN which they copy from Mobile or Birmingham Press. Alabama claimed Curtis is not a season ticket holder, Alumni, nor a booster. However, NCAA claims student-athlete shall not go on trips in which they didn't pay for..or something like that. That reason why NCAA got their panties up in bunch. They made Julio and Mark pay for the expense of the trip before they could play a snap Saturday night. That's the full story. Quote
