Well the Power Ranger / 4 Liters of Fury / Rusty finally blew up and I'm not paying to fix a 1999 Ranger with 185k on it (needs new heads).

So I found a 2003 Chevy 1500 with the 4.3 liter vortec, 5 speed manual. regular cab, 4x4, 6 foot bed, with 70k on it, and previously owned by a man with OCD for $6500. Anyone own one or have any input?

I am still a full time college student and commute around 40 miles a day so I don't really want/need the V8 and the 4.3 can easily tow an 18 foot glass boat. I want the extended cab but for what is in my range I would be looking at an older truck with a lot more miles.

Well, I'm a Chevy man, so of course I'd say go for it.. ;D

I have a 2003, cept mine is a xtra cab, 4X4 Duramax with the allision tranny, and the long bed...

70k isn't that many miles, providing the truck was properly maintained, and not abused, heck I bought a 93 F150 with a tick over 80k, and finally traded it in with 197k on it.

The Silverado will pull your boat ..no problem. Treat your truck right, and it'll treat you right.. ;)

My roomate has an S10 with the 4.3, in my opinion one of the best motors chevy has. That motor in a bigger truck wont be blindingly quick but paired with the 5 speed it should be plenty enough and get pretty decent mileage.

I had an 89 ranger with a 2.9, 4:10 gears with welded spiders. and a 5 speed. That truck went anywhere and everywhere my fullsize buddys went. chirped the tires through third, dang I miss that thing.

I have an 06 Sierra with the 4.3.  Mine is a reg cab SWB 2WD auto.  I get decent gas mileage, around 20 last time I checked, and have plenty of power for what I need.  I have not been dissapointed with my truck and it has almost 60,000 miles on it.

Are you guys sure about the 4.3L V8?  I was thinking that the 4.3 is a V6......I owned a Blazer and a small GMC pickup that both had the 4.3 V6. All 3 of my Silverados have had the 5.3 V8. The smallest V8 I can find listed is a 4.8L.

Anyway, I'm on my 3rd Sliverado, currently have a 2004. Have owned a 2001 and 2003. All have been reliable. One of my best friends owns a Chevy dealership, he kept me bouncing around in trucks for awhile cause of better interest rates. I'm at like 2.9% now and will keep this truck till paid off (less than 2 years). I've bought all mine used with less than 20,000 on them BTW.

I also have an 03 Silverado z71 package.  I will NEVER not have a truck, period.  the only issues I have had were having all o2 sensors fail around 70k.  Truck ran like S*^% when that happened.  But, mechanically have never had an issue.  I bought mine with 44K and now have 130K.  I will drive her till she drops.

Bassnleo : The reason I'm going with the 4.3l is because it is a v6. I don't have a 21 foot glass boat so I really don't need a v8.
