Super User Tin Posted August 17, 2009 Super User Posted August 17, 2009 I could really see the Vikings doing some serious damage in the NFC this year. And now the Farve talk is back on. My other pick from the NFC would be Carolina. In the AFC it's hard picking a surprise with Brady back. ;D Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Well Ron, I dont know. I think the Rams and Chiefs will be battling for last again. Its been a head to head competition lately. ;D Quote
bigtimfish Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I have to say it, The Houston Texans. Keep your eye out for RB Steve Slaton. He is a beast. Now if we could just get a reliable QB. Quote
done Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Not sure about the panthers. Seems every year they predict we will do good, we end up choking seriously. IMO, unless Fox comes up with something better than the same ol' playbook he has been using for 5 years (you could write a "beating the Panther for dummies" book easily) they are going to stink it up again. I mean we used to have a game out of calling the plays the panthers would run and we were dead on > 60% of the time. If we can do it, you know the guys who are paid to do it on the other teams are not having any trouble. In the AFC I am anxiously waiting to see what the Bills will to with TO. I wonder if he will wake up and learn to keep his trap shut and focus on playing ball. If he does, they will be a pretty good contender I think. The man can make a serious impact positively or negatively at a team like Buffalo. Whether it is good or bad depends on his learning 2 words: "No comment". Quote
nateobot Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I don't know that you can say the Vikings are a surprise team. Their only real personnel loss was Birk and Sharper. They get back EJ Henderson and Farwell (ST stud). The QB situation is no worse than last year and when they won the division and went 10-6. If they don't make a decent playoff run this year, then bye bye Chilly. The defense should be a blast to watch. NFC East should be a tossup again this year, and I think Atlanta takes the next step and wins the South. I don't think Arizona repeats as the West champs, maybe San Fran moves up? Quote
Super User Tin Posted August 17, 2009 Author Super User Posted August 17, 2009 When the Bills are at or below .500 in December and it is -10 with a windchill and 6' of snow on the ground the good ol' TO will come out. Quote
done Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 When the Bills are at or below .500 in December and it is -10 with a windchill and 6' of snow on the ground the good ol' TO will come out. The only thing I can see saving him is he HAS to see the writing on the wall. Let's be honest, the man can play ball. He has killed the atmosphere at so many teams, and been booted that there is an ever decreasing number of teams that will take him. Seriously, if he gets himself thrown off of Buffalo, he may not be playing again. Even he has to see that. I would hope that would lead him to just say "No comment." to the press and keep any discourse between himself and ownership/QB behind closed doors. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 17, 2009 Super User Posted August 17, 2009 No big surprises in the NFC. The team to make big push this year will be the Houston Texans. Quote
1inStripes Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 one word. HAIL! Hail to the perennial NFC East Cellar Dwellers! Houston will be good, and if they protect Schaub they don't have any QB worries. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 With the salary cap, free agency & scheduling based upon last year's results any team could pull a surprise. The line between the best and the worst is much, much thinner than it used to be. Parody sucks imo. Quote
bass or bass ? Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I have to say it, The Houston Texans. Keep your eye out for RB Steve Slaton. He is a beast. Now if we could just get a reliable QB. I picked Slaton in my fantasy draft last year near the end of the draft. Everyone said "WHO?". They found out soon enough. He was one of my best picks. Go Cardinals!!! Go Steelers!!! Quote
Aaron Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I have not kept up with offseason news as much as usual but I would not count out Atlanta. Also, most every year I look for Houston to be a challenger but get dissapointed maybe this year will be different. I think the Pats could be great even though I don't like them. I will wait until Brady is challenged by an in his face defense before I decide if the old Brady is back. I just hope my team, the Raiders, makes it to .500. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 Surprise NFL team this year? Raiders - playoffs this year, Super Bowl next year and remember, you heard it here first. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted August 18, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted August 18, 2009 By "surprise", I think you mean teams that will make it into the playoffs that didn't last year, and may not be on everyone's radar. So with that definition in mind, here are my picks in no particular order: Bears Texans Seahawks 49'rs Chiefs My REAL long-shot surprise team? The Lions. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Da Bears, looks as if maybe their defense is back. If Culter out plays Orton, no brainer, they could be in contention for a playoff berth at least. Quote
detroit1 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Lions. Seriously. You did ask for surprise teams, right? Just wait. I have been waiting since i was 5 months old...(1957) Not too surprising if any other team makes the playoffs. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted August 18, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted August 18, 2009 Just to clarify - I wasn't joking about the Lions. I think they have a (remote) shot at pulling a Fins/Falcons-style turnaround and surprising everyone. Quote
BigOleBob Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I think the Packers switching their defense to the 3-4 and the draft they had make them look like a good surprise (?) team. They underachieved greatly last year.... :'( Quote
christopherjake Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Well Ron, I dont know. I think the Rams and Chiefs will be battling for last again. Its been a head to head competition lately. ;D I'm hoping the Rams will at least compete this year. The last couple of years have been horrible!! Quote

They'll definitely be the most improved team. Quote
