Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 17, 2009 Super User Posted August 17, 2009 Cleveland has two of the worse ownerships of sports teams in the professioal ranks. (Indians ,Browns.) The jury is still out on the Cav's but they are so far ahead of the other two it's not funny. How many here think their teams need new ownership ? Quote
llPa1nll Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I have been on the side of the NHL's Boston Bruins needing to get new ownership. They are the worst owners only trying to be mildly competitive to keep fans in the seats and not want to go out and win a Stanely Cup. I cant really complain about the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics ownership since all of them have done well in the last 5 yrs. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 17, 2009 Super User Posted August 17, 2009 Hard core Lions fan..................Lions are the worst team in any professional sport...........PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!! William Clay Ford and now Bill Ford know as much about football as I know about making cars. Quote

Could be really good for the next few years or really bad. Quote
nateobot Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 How are you defining bad ownership? Is it not spending money, or is it not winning? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 17, 2009 Author Super User Posted August 17, 2009 How are you defining bad ownership? Is it not spending money, or is it not winning? Both Indians are cheap and Browns spend but on the wrong players. Quote
done Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 How about our beloved BBall team in CLT? That has horrific ownership. The team had a lot too prove to recover from the rather unpopular way they got their stadium. Their ownership puts rap and gangsta themes to the entertainment and wonder why nobody in Charlotte will come to see them play. The way they price all these professional sports teams, who is going to buy the boxes? The rich folks. The local big businesses. This is a professional banker town in the bible belt. When you talk big companies you are looking at Duke Energy, Wachovia, Bank of America, etc. When you look at the Panthers and how they market the team in Charlotte and fill those seats, they cater heavily to those companies and it pays off. There have been rumors that Jordan may take over the team completely. I would LOVE to see that. Absolutely LOVE it. That man knows how to run a business and how to run a B-ball club. I think the team would do well under his full management. I don't want to come off sounding like a bigot here but no matter what sports team you have, you have to throw out an image that fits your audience. Each city has its own character and a smart owner will market his team to fit the unique character of the city they market in. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted August 17, 2009 Super User Posted August 17, 2009 not to mention they let the back to back AL Cy Young winners go the following year!!!!!!!!!! Quote
nateobot Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Actually, I think the entire NBA has a problem, but this thread is about particular teams so I will toss out the Timberwolves. This year they finally have listened to the fans and cleared out the entire front office, and are starting fresh. Now we get to wait another 3+ years before anything will happen... Quote

I wouldnt mind if Dan Snyder left for good. and took vinny with him. Quote

But they're perfect in the preseason... 1-0, better get those season tickets before they're all gone. Quote

Aaron Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I can't wait for the Raiders to be under new ownership. Quote
bmadd Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Yea I would agree it's a toss up between the Raiders and the Lions. The Lions actually draft good players (just not players that actually fill roles that they need). And Al Davis as no reasoning. He just does as he wants. PS: Ford is doing better than and other US Car manufacture :-? Quote

William Clay Ford and now Bill Ford know as much about football as I know about making cars. Man, I feel for you. I am a Chicago Southside native relocated to Az and we know the White Sox couldn't have worst ownership, Jerry Raindsford(sp) also owns the Bulls and he is terrible, not really concerned with anything but his pocket. I am just glad the gor ride of Jerry Krause a long time a go. Anyone who drives Micheal Jordan out of the team and city deserves a big fat ZERO. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 The Detroit Lions!!! Since William Clay Ford aquired the team, they've been in the dumper. The last championship was in 1957......That's ridiculous. The Red Wings, and Tigers are owned by Mike Ilitch, and are two of the best franchises in all of professional sports. Falcon Quote

Koop Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Milwaukee Bucks are nothing to squawk about either... I want to slap their management... they have been "preparing for the future" for the last 20 years. I lost complete faith in that team when they traded Dirk. Quote
detroit1 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Al and his raiders. I must respectively disagree with those who claim the Lions. Yes, Ford took advantage of this football - crazed town back in the 60's, 70's 80's, and some of the 90's, but i think that there is no owner out there that wants to win as much as he does. He just doesn't know how. Quit and let your boy run the team. Quote

That may be the case with the Lions, but Al Davis is supposed to be a football guy, was a coach and has been around football for half his life at least. But it is the same thing you mention, he won't let his own people coach and run the team, he seems like he just can't give up the power to anyone. It is a wonder anyone would want to work for him. that is bad. Quote
