Super User Sam Posted August 10, 2009 Super User Posted August 10, 2009 There was a reason you did not deal with Patriot. You got a nicer car. You may want to write to the president of Patriot and thank him for what his sales manager did, allowing you go find a better deal. Sometimes, being nice can really drive someone up a wall. Quote
Bull Hurley Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 You may want to consider all the BS and 1000 tards before you the dealers have been having to put up with. I have been reading on a couple of dealer forums and you would not believe the horsepoop that they are having to go through with customers and Big Brother at the same time over this hairbrained scheme. moby bass Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 In the past 20 years, my wife and I purchased 9 used or "factory" vehicles, from the SAME dealer, that I referred to in an earlier post. My 2 current cars, both SUV's, will have the wheels run off of them before I go and buy off the dealer that now has the franchise. They are known to have "sales" where they actually bring in salespeople from out of state, to consummate the sale. I do not intend to buy there. A fellow I knew told me of an experience he once had at a dealership where the salesman actually took the fellow's car keys and threw them on the roof of the building, so he wouldn't leave. Quote

moby bass Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 This thread got me to thinking, so I surfed around the web to see what car buying tips were out there. I found this: Losing the Keys to Your Car. You don't see this as much these days but some unscrupulous dealers still will try to keep you at the dealership by either losing the keys to your trade-in or accidentally blocking your car so that you can't get out. When they ask for the keys to your car to evaluate it, just give them a spare car key, and if they should pull this trick, leave. If they do this, they are totally unscrupulous and you want nothing further to do with them. Go somewhere else. http://www.negotiationdynamics.com/Newcar.asp I guess it happens. > Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 11, 2009 Super User Posted August 11, 2009 Bought or leased my share of cars over the years, not to mention tractor/trailers for commercial use, new car last week which means 2 for the year. No different than negotiating any business deal and I like it. It's a game and I approach it that way, if I have the money and the incentive that puts me in charge, not them and I let them know it in a pleasant way. Having nearly 40 years of salesmanship under my belt doesn't hurt. They do take their time these days so when I was at Toyota last week I told the salesman while he was talking to his sales manager I was walking next door to Honda to see what they had to offer, they sped it up pretty quick. nateobot Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Hope you went back and showed the sales manager your new G6. Quote
done Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Worst I had personally was a local dealership that had listening devices out in the lot. I know this cause we chatted with about the sleaziest sales guy I have ever met. After he leaves, my wife says something like "He acted like me and the kids did not even exist. Just another one of those guys who think the wife opinion does not matter.". I made mention of how the guy must be new cause he has tried about ever pressure tactic in the "Car sales for dummies." book. He walks back from inside the main building, says hi to our kids, shakes my wife hand, ask her what she thinks about the vehicle we had looked at, and then goes on a long schpeel about how he is not about using pressure tactics to sell a car. I was like...alright, I am outta here. Quote
Hinkle2891 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I had a humorous car experience too: My girlfriend was in the market for a used Honda accord. So, she was afraid to test drive it, so i drove it. Right off the bat, the transmission was flakey. The car actually DIED and wouldn't start 10 minutes into the test drive. the salesman blamed the battery for the transmission. Idiot. So we waited for AN HOUR for his mechanic to drive the like 6 miles we had gone, he put a battery charger under the hood connected to the battery, and since the hood wouldn't close, i demanded that the salesman drive back because I wasn't interested. So, he was driving back, without the hood latched, and the hood flew up and cracked the windshield. HILARIOUS!!!!! Quote
christopherjake Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Glad things worked out for you. Clocking the manager wouldn't end as well, I presume. Quote
