baboosicbass08 Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I was heading to the shooting range with my dad today and I was driving in my Jeep wrangler, we get into the place which is pretty off in the woods all on a dirt road with swamps/pond on the side, as we get in we unlocked the gate, drove up, then I went to pull off to the side to get out and close the gate and I pulled off a little bit then the sand sunk out from the tires on the right and after that there was nothing I could do we started sliding down an embankment on the right side and stopped just before we rolled. Realizing it wouldn't be a good idea to try anything without checking out the situation first we both climb out the drivers door slowly (I stepped on the running boards on the drivers side while my dad climbed out the drivers so it wouldn't roll) as we get out we realize if we try to go anywhere we're just gonna run the risk of rolling (The front drivers side tire was off the ground) So we call a tow truck and as we're waiting we walk down a little into the swamp that we would have rolled in and realized just how lucky we got the front passenger side tire was on a rock which is what stopped us from going sideways down the embankment into the swamp, if we tried to go forward or backward at all once the tire got off the rock it woulda rolled for sure. Tow truck cost a $100 but it was a $100 well spent instead of a much bigger bill if we tried to get out ourselves. Although we did get some shooting time in while waiting for the tow truck ;D ;D ;D Sorry for the long post but felt like I had to share, hope everyone elses day went better than mine Quote
tnbassfisher Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Wow man. In a Jeep, too. They flip quite easily. Quote
daviscw Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I've had that feeling several times in a tractor. It'll put you back in your place. I'm glad y'all came out alright; everybody isn't always that lucky. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted August 10, 2009 Super User Posted August 10, 2009 Sorry, I tried to read your post, but it was written with only two sentences. About halfway through the first sentence my brain started to hurt, so I gave up trying to read any further. : Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted August 10, 2009 Super User Posted August 10, 2009 BL, if you have the patience, read it for me and then tell me what he was trying to say. ;D Quote

Thanks yeah it really does put you in your place I realize it could have been alot worse, considering my dad was on the side that woulda hit first. And sorry Long Mike I must have missed the part in the guidelines where every post has to have perfect punctuation and grammar. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted August 10, 2009 Super User Posted August 10, 2009 And sorry Long Mike I must have missed the part in the guidelines where every post has to have perfect punctuation and grammar. You do realize that it is easier for others to read your posts if they contain reasonably decent grammar and punctuation. Quote
baboosicbass08 Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 Yes I realize that. I really wasn't trying to start anything by not proofreading my post first, but I really wasn't concerned with how my grammar and punctuation were because I still had the adrenaline pumping from the situation I was talking about in the post. I just took Mike's post as kind of rude Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted August 10, 2009 Super User Posted August 10, 2009 Mikes not rude, he's just Mike. If and when you ever meet him, you'll understand, he's the most lovable man I have ever met. Heck, your apt to even get a hug out of him. I've seen it, it's not pretty, but I've seen it. During this last years roadtrip he was even correcting my sentences before I said anything. Now I is spell gooder. ;D Quote

No I was fine with his first comment, I just took his second comment "BL, if you have the patience, read it for me and then tell me what he was trying to say. ;D" as rude because he already said he wouldn't read it because of the grammar so I felt there was no need for him to say anything else about it. Super User Sam Posted August 10, 2009 Super User Posted August 10, 2009 That was a very close call and I am glad you and your dad are OK. As for your post, one of the things I learned is when you write a letter or report, white space is your friend. Mike was telling you that it is better to write down your thoughts, then proof read them, adding white space and using spell check, correct the errors and taking out the "wordiness" to make the report sharp and to the point. I understand your post and how you wrote it but remember, your goal is to communicate your message to everyone else so they will read and comprehend it. Take what Mike says as a great suggestion for you in the future as you go through life, school and build a career. Now, have you been fishing lately and if so, what have you caught???? Quote
baboosicbass08 Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 Thanks Sam. Unfortunately I haven't had time to fish in about 2 weeks, but I'm heading up to Old Orchard Beach in Maine this Saturday to do some striper fishing, so I'm pretty excited for that. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 10, 2009 Super User Posted August 10, 2009 I had that happen to me while on a riding lawn mower. It is one scary feeling that I will never forget. Quote
wagn Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 It's okay that you never use punctuation people don't really mind except for some people who do and it's just cause they are those kind of people not mean but just different if you know what i mean in fact i think that i may even stop using spaces causeitscooltojustputallthewordstogetherlikethisthatwayeverythingislikeafluidthoughtandwhatnotifyouknowwhatimean. J/k. Just messing with you man Glad your okay. Quote
