fish-fighting-illini Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I went to a small gathering for a friend of our daughter. This friend is moving to Arizona for medical school and it was a small going away party. A friend of this girl was in the crowd; I found out the next day that she was the daughter of a huge oil co owner or CEO level a tleast. Nice normal sounding youg girl who had recently gotten married. I didn't detect a single ounce of snobbery. Good thing the party wasn;t at that girls house or we would have been way way way way way out of our element! Quote
Super User Root beer Posted August 7, 2009 Super User Posted August 7, 2009 Yeah, I got some rich friends who are very laid back and hardly even speak about their wallet. He same guy that had 8 bedroom house in very exclusive neighborhood in my town, he sold it just have a small condo, He thought house was too big. Some rich people are normal and laid back and could careless what in their bank account. Some are just plain snobby. Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 The nature of my business (marble restoration) provides me with the opportunity of working in the homes of many rich people. With very few exceptions, these people are just plain folks who worked their butts off to make it where they are today. Usually they remain just plain folks. Occasionally, the money affects their egos and they start talking down to people as if they were slaves. I have surprised a few of the egoists by telling them I don't want their business. Quote
ohioriverrat Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I come from money. I had the silver spoon syndrome as a kid. I will inherit a small fortune in the (probably) not so distant future. I will still talk to you... Quote
Super User cart7t Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 My wife is a funeral director and worked in a funeral home in the nicer part of town. Her experience was most are just plain folks. Then there were the others. Due to her business, she can't just turn those folks away and think she'll keep her job. Instead she found that if she pushed back when they attempted to brow beat her it worked out quite well. Those folks are suffering a loss just like anyone else but they just don't know how to turn "it" off. Once my wife laid down the rules as to who was in charge and directing the funeral they actually turned that egoist side off and started acting like everybody else. For many it was quite a relief to let that side of themselves go and turn things over to somebody else. They found a side of themselves they probably hadn't experienced in many years. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I know quite a few people that have lots of money, and with a couple of them I know they are doing the same things that was stated above. With moving out of a huge house into something smaller, just because they don't see the need of having as much house anymore, since their kids are grown. Quote
done Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I know a few rich folk, they are all real folks. The problem is those people don't make the news so we don't get that stereotype out in the media Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 The nature of my business (marble restoration) provides me with the opportunity of working in the homes of many rich people. Wow Mike, I had no idea that rich people shot marbles so much that they would have to get them restored. Quote
