Super User skunked_again Posted August 6, 2009 Super User Posted August 6, 2009 i have a few rods id like to sell. whats fair as far as selling lightly used rods price wise? 2/3 the price of the rod plus shipping? half plus shipping? is there a standard for setting prices? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted August 6, 2009 Super User Posted August 6, 2009 WHAT RODS ARE YOU GOING TO SELL ? Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 6, 2009 Super User Posted August 6, 2009 Man, what a question. Super question. Difficult answer. How old are the rods and are they in good condition? And how fast do you want to sell them. Low price means they go fast; higher price means they go slow. Since this is tax free money, anything you get is outstanding, so price the rods at a fair value and see what happens. The guys inquiring may offer a lower price in their negotiations. And you may want to check out e-bay to see what their rods are selling for. Good luck. Quote
jimmieO Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Keep in mind a couple of things- 1. Shipping on a 7foot box is high 2. Find the cheapest new retail price you can find on the net, and then base your percentage off of that. People have a tendency to get snippy if they find it ANYWHERE cheaper online. -For very lightly used rods, I would be willing to pay 65-70% of the cheapest retail price, plus an extra 15-20 for shipping Quote

Super User cart7t Posted August 7, 2009 Super User Posted August 7, 2009 Pricing used equipment is completely determined by what the market will bear. I was selling used Curado B's a few years ago for almost retail price back when the D version Curado came out. Rods are tough because of the shipping charges. You'll wind up paying $5 for a PVC tube if you don't have one and charges for 7' rods pushes you into the surcharge rates due to the length. I'd try Craigslist first. Quote
uicdent11 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 50% plus shipping or combined shipping on multiple rods seems about right for most rods in good shape. If it is lightly used and "like new" then I think it is fair to ask 75% and drop it from there if it doesn't sell. Shipping is approx. $20 so calculate accordingly. Of all the rods I have sold, most people offer $10-$20 less than the asking price. Usually we settle somewhere in between.Something to keep in mind. Quote
Stasher1 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 About 1/2 price plus shipping. If you need tubes I have 2 I think this is about right, but on sub-$100 rods it's really not worth it IMHO. By the time you add $20 shipping onto a $50 rod purchase, you're within $30 of full retail price for a new one. Used $100 rod for $70 or a brand new one for $100? I'd choose the new one every time, but that's just me. Quote
