llPa1nll Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Well looks like Big Papi was a user in 2003. He was tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003. Read more here. Its a sad day for Red Sox Nation. Say it aint so Papi! > :'( > :( Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 You can bet those names are known and will come out periodically just to keep MLB in the NEWS> Quote
Super User Tin Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 Wow, I definatley want to burn the jersey he signed for me. Quote
Daniel A. Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 What a shame...Hasn't Ortiz been vocal about baseball needing to move forward? I guess I understand why now. This really sucks. At this point, they just need to release the report. Otherwise, the names will continue to be leaked until they're all out. Quote

Yeah, just go ahead and put out the whole list......geeez! I think it makes MLB look even worse that all those tests were supposed to be kept confidential. What's up with that? Nice job MLB. Quote
RiskKid. Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 You didn't mention Manny too.....guess we know what was going on behing the green monster now It was only a matter of time Red Sox Nation : Quote

MLB tested everyone and those tests were to be kept confidential (since steroids were not illegal then) That means only a handful of MLB 'brass' knows who did and who didn't. MLB should have stuck to their word ----> CONFIDENTIAL Quote

MLB tested everyone and those tests were to be kept confidential (since steroids were not illegal then) That means only a handful of MLB 'brass' knows who did and who didn't. MLB should have stuck to their word ----> CONFIDENTIAL Absolutely NOT!!!!!! This is why I walked away from the game. The original idea of the testing was to prove it was not as widespread as thought and 103 tested positive and 73 are still playing and both Selig and Fehr refused to dish out the names, because they never thought that many would be involved. Until this all comes to light, and asterisks at the least or better yet are stripped AND those 2 bandits ( Fehr and Selig ) are gone SO AM I. I have not watched a single pitch this year, I miss my team but I had to draw the line somewhere. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Gee...what a surprise. Is there anybody left? Quote
adclem Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 The original test results were suppose to be destroyed but the federal government got involved and seized these files due to the ongoing investigation of BALCO. I believe that at this point all the names need to be released, after all quite a few of them already have been. The lawyers leaking the information also need to step up and say who they are, but they won't. I believe that performance enhancing drugs have tarnished baseball, but it is repairable. I love the game and I am a huge Red Sox fan and have been since I was a small child. Am I disappointed that Ramirez and Ortiz are on the list, no. Why? Because we do not have all of the facts and information. Why would these players do this is beyond me, but there have been several great players linked to this and I would really like to see all of this information released so we can all make up our own minds about, Ortiz, Ramirez, Rodriguez, Bonds, Sosa, McGwire etc... I believe that all the players need to be tested through out the year and if you test positive then you are subject to the MLBs drug policy. But I love the game of baseball and I will continue to watch it and support the Red Sox the rest of my life. Some of you have chose not too because of this, some because of the baseball strikes and that is what makes this country great. We all are entitled to our own opinions. But really do you think that this does not go on in other sports, like the NFL, NHL, NBA, cycling, swimming etc... I think we all no it does to some level it just hasn't been as public. Later, Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 Something I posted on another forum: The Justice Dept. has its hands tied until District Court rules on the appeal by the Players' Union. After that it will be heard in the Supreme Court. In the meantime, they'd like to pursue the source(s) of the illegal drugs, but cannot since the list is still considered "sealed." Therefore, by anonymously, and illegally I presume, leaking names serves to aid in their investigation. I do think someone somewhere has it in for MLB and the union, though. Not sure why....there isn't an obvious "follow the money" trail. Maybe Johnny Jerkbait [edit: a lawyer on that forum] cares to offer his take? At any rate, it goes to show the ubiquity of PEDs in MLB, and while it diminishes the acheivements of players that didn't use, its clear to me that it didn't make much of a difference anyway, other than the usual Giambitis Slump that always follows them going of the juice, LOL. Oh, and when Ortiz finally decides to comment, and he will have to, look for him to use the the "I don't know what they gave us back in the Dominican" defense. He's already laid the groundwork for that excuse. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 Gee...what a surprise. Is there anybody left? Jr., Maddux, Jeter, Puhols.... Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 It is not repairable, WHY? all the facts : Agents like Boras : the more their clients make the more they make. They need their clients to have the best Stats, since salaries are stat driven Steroids: it is not the right thing to do period. I do not care what the facts are. It is interesting to see all the Sox fans poo poo this, now that their 2 biggest sticks are involved The Commish and The Union Head: Owners benefit by increased Offense: this has been Selig's Mantra Players benefit by inflated stats, as salaries are tied to it; Feher,Selig and Boras on the same page here It all started when they lowered the mound after the 68 season and they have chipped away at the heart of the game ever since I do not need all the facts; there is no justification. A lot of honesty followed by players getting clean and submitting to testing to assure they are clean would go a long way to some level of trust I love the game of baseball; it is just a memory now, before they lowered the mound, artificial turf,DH,lively ball, rigged strike zones, banning Willie Mays, bad umpiring, the strike, turning a deaf ear to steroid use,and throwing pitchers out for THROWING INSIDE( not hitting anyone;just inside), the long ball orgy( and that stupid home run derby) and high salaries to mediocre position players and pitchers with Era's that are greater than Rosie O Donnell's weight! nah it is not the game of Baseball my father taught me to love. :-[ Quote
Daniel A. Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 MLB should have stuck to their word ----> CONFIDENTIAL I agree 100%...but it looks like once the test results were seized, MLB doesn't have the control to keep the names confidential. Isn't the legal body in possession of the test results responsible for the leaks? I don't think MLB has much to do with it at this point. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 Why would a sport want to keep a list of cheaters confidential??? Do you think the Kentucky Derby would keep it's popularity if there was widespread doping of the horses, they confirm it and then hide it from the public? The NFL is the only sport that has seemed to benefit from Steroids, some would say Wrestling but that's entertainment and not a sport ;D The Olympics and other gymnastic sanctioning bodies are maniacal about this, and the slightest positive tests have been made public and the athletes involved immediately stripped of all records and awards. Track and field events, not popular to begin with suffered from this and Olympic weight lifting got completely discredited when the women from BULGARIA kept showing up rocking goatees and no one said anything Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 Just remember that Canseco originally said that 80 % of the players were using. It may not be that high but close. I'm with Muddy on this one , they have changed the game too much. Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Gee...what a surprise. Is there anybody left? Jr., Maddux, Jeter, Puhols.... I seriously doubt Jeter, although Im a Yankee fan (not A-Rod) and have been as long as I remember, I hate the fact of PED's in any sport, take the Giam's,A-Rods,Petites and the rest of the friggen cheaters and ban them from the game. These guys are the best of the best, the elite and idolized by young american boys with a dream of becoming a baseball player, all they're doing is teaching them how to cheat. Quote
Tim1980 Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I know for sure none of the current Pirates ever used, because you can't suck that bad when you juice, even once. Canseco also said that a hall of famer used .....cough..cough Rickey Henderson...cough.... cough. There will probably be a few more eventually also. Only they know if it is legit or not. Its like catching a 3 pound bass and telling your buddys you caught a 5 pounder you know it wasn't, and just because everyone else thinks its true doesn't mean that it is. They are the only one who REALLY knows. Quote

Super User Muddy Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 Hey John: here is one former Pro I would say should be on the did not juice list: Lenn Haruki Sakata Life time Stats: 565 Games 296 Hits 25 Home Runs 109 RBIs .230 Batting Average ;D Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 LOL, OK, I'll revise, it was a short list of great players that probably haven't used PEDs.... Quote

Super User Muddy Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 He was long.lean and muscular; like a real baseball player, i would really be surprised. 500 life time guy both in wins and loses and also in balls and strikes but those 7 No Nos put him in a class by himself! Quote
