Super User Root beer Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 "Destruction lead to a very rough road, but it also breeds creation." It from the song "Californication" by Red Hot Chili Pepper. That song is so true, it song about how California (Hollywood in general) sets the standard for rest of the world. Notice how we always follow movies stars, and trends tend to be same as a movie star? Weird. But it good song that is stuck in my head! Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 Not deep and the love I get and give to God, my family and friends is what sets my standard; Hollywood is all about fantasy, standards are real. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 I don't keep up with celebrities. I just watch movies from time to time. Quote

bigtimfish Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 You need to listen to AENIMA by a band called Tool. That whole song is about California falling off into the ocean." Learn to swim,See you down in Arizona bay". Great song, great album. My all time favorite band. Quote

As far as California setting the trends for the rest of the country and/or world, I think we can, indeed, use Chili Peppers song "Californication" as a good descriptor. Only it's up the poop chute. done Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 LOL. I had a thread a bit ago asking about folks following jugheads like actors are role models. MUCH to my pleasant surprise, a majority of folks on here actually reaffirmed my faith in humanity in declaring no idolization for celebrities. From having a job that requires a lot of travel around the US, I can say, there are some who follow celebrities but the majority of folks I meet do not in any way shape or form. A lot tend to use them as examples not to follow. The problem is the celebrities who you should not follow grab the cameras and make the news. There is no news to be made about a celeb who goes to work, then goes home to his/her family and acts like a responsible, respectable adult. As to the lyrics, I would classify them as another one of the truths of the world. Destruction may breed creation but it is not a pre-requisite to creation. Staying with the idea of deep lyrics, Rush was a good band for statements like that in their music. Some of the oldies (that means 60's and 70's for my generation), have some great "deep" lyrics. I am sure team depends could throw out some doozies. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 31, 2009 Super User Posted July 31, 2009 I remember when pork chops were a nickel, and I din't have a nickel;BB KING You've thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain't worth the blood That runs in your veins.: Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul :Both verses from BOB DYLAN If I exorcise my devils my angels will leave too and when they do, they are so hard to find how can the angels get any sleep when the devil leaves the porch light on; Both from Tom Waits just spent 60 days in the jailhouse For the crime of having no dough Now here I am back out on the street For the crime of having nowhere to go Save your neck or save your brother Looks like it's one or the other Oh, you don't know the shape I'm in THE BAND One more; The whole freaking song Marvin Gaye, Motown Mother, mother There's too many of you crying Brother, brother, brother There's far too many of you dying You know we've got to find a way To bring some lovin' here today - Ya Father, father We don't need to escalate You see, war is not the answer For only love can conquer hate You know we've got to find a way To bring some lovin' here today Picket lines and picket signs Don't punish me with brutality Talk to me, so you can see Oh, what's going on What's going on Ya, what's going on Ah, what's going on In the mean time Right on, baby Right on Right on Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong Oh, but who are they to judge us Simply because our hair is long Oh, you know we've got to find a way To bring some understanding here today Oh Picket lines and picket signs Don't punish me with brutality Talk to me So you can see What's going on Ya, what's going on Tell me what's going on I'll tell you what's going on - Uh Right on baby Right on baby Quote
