Super User Dan: Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 RL Burnside? Burnside is more famous but I was just asking about Kimbrough because he is an older bluesman that the Black Keys used as a source of influence and payed homage to his songs after his death. Burnside and Kimbrough are Mississippi hill country musicians. Their stuff is gritty and rough but has a lot of feeling. I've told you that my friend works for Jon Cleary right? Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 He is an Irish guy who grew up in England and came to New Orleans :Cleary is a great musician. You should hear him play guitar, he picked up piano later in life, and he is a killer piano player. He comes from the Professor Long Hair/Dr.John school, but has added his own touch! Super User J Francho Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 No sweat Muddy, I absolutely cannot stand Clapton. Seriously. He retards my brain. Eric Crapton....the most overrated.... Mudman, you aren't old, if you don't feel it, you don't feel it. I find a lot of music that I don't initially like takes time to set in. Its as if my ears need retraining - too used to what I have already been listening to. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 30, 2009 Super User Posted July 30, 2009 The Maple Leaf; played there years ago and it had one of my favorite bit of men's room graffiti in it On the wall behind a urinal, written sideways: As you are reading this you are peeing on the guy standing next to you This was the period of my life that got very dark; I can never go in there again. I avoid people, places and things from that life now, for my own protection. I was losing my ability to play more than 2 sets from being loaded all the time. I hope no one remembers the few times I played there! I am grateful these days are past/ 8-) Quote
Daniel A. Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 Wow...thanks for the input, everyone. I'm sure I can find a couple of albums I'll enjoy. Quote
