frogtog Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I heard on news today that they were thinking about reinstating him I know he did things that just wasn't right but you can't take away what he did for baseball. When he was a player he gave a 110% all the time. I always wonder why everyone else got two chances but Pete only had one? Maybe they will go ahead and do what is right. Quote
Quitlimpin Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 With all the carp that goes on in professional sports, the fact that Pete Rose has not been reinstated is ridiculous. I hope that soon we will get to watch his HOF induction speech. Quote
Bronzefly Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I agree completely... he was one of the greatest ever, period. He deserves his spot in the hall of fame without a doubt! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 I don't know which is a bigger crime. The exclusion of Pete Rose or the exclusion of Ron Santo. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 Pete Rose's real sin is that he contributed to the demise of Marge Schott, and Selig is an owner, they call him commissioner but he is an owner in sheep's clothing! Quote
Daniel A. Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Landing in the Hall of Fame requires he meet certain criteria including good character. Based on those two words alone, he should never make it in. If based solely on the way he played the game, he'd be in. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 Santos and Carl Furillo should both be in the hall, 2 biggest glaring exclusions right after Rose Quote
Uncle Leo Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 It was just gambling, for Pete's Sake. Let him in! Quote

Based on those two words alone, he should never make it in. If based solely on the way he played the game, he'd be in. There are drunks, dopers, gamblers, womanizers, racists and 2 convicted drug dealers in the hall. Pete broke a rule , he did bet ON HIS OWN TEAM, forgiveness is a wonderful thing! ps they banned Willie Mays form MLB, including going to games, because when he was RETIRED , for 2 years he had the audacity to represent a Las Vegas Hotel Steinbrenner and his buddy Fugazi were convicted of perjury and illegal campaign contributions and he was allowed to keep his team Quote
Eddie Munster Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I agree he's one of the greatest of all time but I'm against letting him in solely because the steriod debacle. Just because there is rule breaking going on today doesn't mean we should let a rule breaker from the past in. That's just compromising your principles. Now do I think he's paid the price? Yes. Let him in. But Bonds, Mark M., Sosa, etc...............NEVER. These guys cheating affected the games AND the records. BANNED FOR LIFE IMO. Quote

Right there with you, unless they take those records away, this is why I walked away from the game. Pete Rose did not alter the outcome or records of any game he bet on. Had he bet AGAINST his own team, that would have been a different matter. Quote
Bull Hurley Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 When Pete got disrespected the way he did (and the 1994 strike) is when I really stopped caring about pro baseball much at all. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 When Pete got disrespected the way he did (and the 1994 strike) is when I really stopped caring about pro baseball much at all. I haven't watched a game since. Cry babies. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Pete Rose didn't cheat when he broke Ty Cobb's hits record. (At least that we know of yet. lol) Let the poor guy in. He's done his time. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 He should have come clean in the first place. He lied to his fans for years, the commissioner, and his team mates that went to bat for him. Only Pete and his bookie knows who he bet on. He lied for years, I see no reason to think he's totally come clean. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 It's good to know you tell the truth 100% of the time. Pete Rose's bookie , if you want to call him that took checks??????? I bet a lot of my life, no bookie would take a check, it was part of a chain of evidence that a felony and on going racketeering was going on. Pete was set up, the checks and betting records that were entered into evidence showed he bet on sports, he bet on baseball; in games where his team was involved; HE BET ON HIS OWN TEAM. People who come clean about bookies, usually break out in broken bones! Stick to football Matt. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 Back in 1983, or thereabouts, LSU's Billy Cannon was scheduled to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame when Billy was arrested for counterfeiting. He went to federal prison in lieu of being inducted into the Hall. Billy is being inducted into the Hall this year, after all these years. So if college football can put a counterfeiter in their Hall, there is no reason not to put Pete in the Baseball Hall of Fame. A little gambling that did not hurt anyone nor on the games he played vs. fake money. You decide. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 As much as I would like to see Pete in, that is a ridiculous argument Sam. Two different sports, two different governing bodies. One is a scholastic/amateur sport, with different rules and guidelines as the other is a professional sport. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 I used to despise the guy. I did because he wasn't on my team. The guy played the game with passion and had talent to back up the passion. As for the gambling? I'm with muddy, he bet on his own team to win. Big difference IMO. Let him in. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 While Pete bet on his on team he never tried effect the out come of a game. Performance enhancing drugs are taken with the sole purpose of affecting the outcome of the game. If Michael (Cocaine) Irvin can make the hall of fame : And yes cocaine is a performance enhancing drug and yes he did it during the game Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 He'll never get into the hall as long as he's living. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 He and Johnny Bench were two of my high school idols. Rose for his hustle, Bench because I was an aspiring catcher and he was the "Best Ever". Rose in the Hall of Fame? NEVER! Quote
Zel Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Rose in the Hall of Fame? NEVER! And Michael Vick will never play in the NFL again. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted July 29, 2009 Super User Posted July 29, 2009 First off, whether I have lied or not, doesn't entitle me the right to be elected to the Hall of Fame of Baseball. So this isn't about common folk. Did Pete for years and years continue to look at his peers, fans, and team mates and lie straight to their faces? He's such the roll model, his own son has already been arrested for selling DATE RAPE pills to team mates. Don't look like the apple fell to far from the tree. Do you know how the Pete Rose camp deflected the truth away from his son or tried to? Tried to pass them off to the media as a "muscle relaxers". Now he can serve as a Role MODEL for young baseball players. How not to screw up your career if you want into the Hall of Fame. Catt, thats 15 yards, unsportsman like conduct!!!!!! Hitting below the belt. : Quote

Be careful, your stretching it there ;D It went from a pro sport to an Older Guy Sport ;D Most pro sports are not pro sports anymore in my eyes(ok that was a serious comment) woops for got,,,, GO Pete!
