Super User grimlin Posted June 12, 2009 Super User Posted June 12, 2009 And if I were an employer and someone showed up with several tatoos visible looking for work, it would be a VERY short interview. No offense meant; guess I'm just old fashioned in some ways. That actually ticks me off when somebody says that. Not only is that discriminating and wrong, you could very well be passing up the best employee you might hire. Me,I'll just wear long sleeves and cover them up.You'll never know it till I'm hired on and already made a good impression on you. 8-) Quote

Sure cover them up and you stand a chance to get the job but KEEP em covered while you're on MY job site. When you're on MY job site, you represent me and my company = my rules. And it's not discriminatory; it's called a consequence of your choice of lifestyle. You want to have tatoos all over your body; fine. Just realize that the employers of the world will think twice about having someone like that as the face for their company. Or if you do get hired, you'll most likely be limited as to how far you'll be able to advance. Same goes for people that want to smoke the wacky tobacky. Toke up all you want but realize that certain career fields will be off limits to you. Like I said, no offense meant. I'm old fashioned about some things. Quote

Eddie Munster Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 So what exactly are you saying about people with tattoos? I'm saying if I were an employer and someone came in all tatoo'd out, I wouldn't hire them. Same if you had a bunch of piercings that were visible or needing a haircut/shave, stoned, drunk, whatever. How bad do you want the job? Bad enough to look polished or you just want to keep it real? Well, as a family man that cares more about putting food on the table than on 'being me' I'll do what it takes to get and keep the job. Don't try to draw any other conclusions about my statement other than I wouldn't have someone representing my company that doesn't look professional in my opinion and may cost some business. Quote

That's understandable.Your opinion is your opinion. I've personally never walked out of a store or restaurant because of a tattoo. Quote
Eddie Munster Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 That's understandable.Your opinion is your opinion. I've personally never walked out of a store or restaurant because of a tattoo. Not talking about A tattoo. I'm talking about the people with numerous ones or covered in them. A discreet one/two is no one's business and not a deal breaker. Key word being discreet. As far as walking out of a store or restaurant because someone's tattoo'd up, well I'm not talking about my impression of someone making me a hamburger or selling me a lawnmower. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 13, 2009 Super User Posted June 13, 2009 I have hired many many people over 30 years as the owner of the business. For the most part heavily tattooed people do not apply for positions where they are dealing with corporate heads, but exceptions have occured. To refuse employment based on a person's look is something I could never do, if qualified and showed a work ethic that would be good enough for me, until proven otherwise, everyone needs a chance. I don't think it's an issue of being old fashioned, I've met conservative people that wear them. For me it's an issue of doing the right thing. Quote
TrippyJai Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I agree with mostly what Eddie says about tattoos and piercings. I usually fix my hair pretty crazy and put earrings on, but when it comes time for job interview or work, I take them all off and keep my hair as normal as possible, as well as none of my usually clothes and necklace, bracelets or anything like that. I have a couple of tattoos, but those are on my back so I don't really have to worry about them. You can say what you want about being old fashion or discrimination, but that really is how it goes down. You have to present yourself to the employers standards and many don't like those things and might look at you in a different way. It's just the safe route I say. Quote
wagn Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 It really depends upon how you handle yourself. I have 4 tattoo's pretty large. One of them is half sleeve on my right arm. I enjoy tattoos but also realize I work and live in the real world. People may discriminate against me because of my ink. That's why all of my tattoos are easily coverable However I currently work in "corporate America" for a very large firm. I hold an important position in the company and have never had a problem with anyone because of my tattoos. The reason is that you can't see them when I'm at work. So go ahead and get all the ink you want and if your worried about what people may think of you, get them in places that can be covered. A long sleeve shirt does wonders. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted June 13, 2009 Super User Posted June 13, 2009 way cool 8-) I have a few tats, never regretted it , and they cover up with sleeves at work. Quote

thetr20one Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Make sure the tattoo artist renndering is exactly what you what and, gote the hooks the like 7/0 size thick at least. It will look good! Quote

One of my fishing partners has several tat's and he highly recommends the place I'm going. The guy is really good (judging from my fishing partner's). Thanks for the tip on the thickness! That's actually I thing I've been trying to figure out. Muddy, its a shame we always do the get togethers in the cooler months, I had no idea you had any. I'm placing mine where a polo shirt will be able to cover it up. So there's no problem with being able to cover it up for work. But then, I am rather fortunate on where I work because its I casual environment and there are a few co-workers that have tat's as well. Quote

Understandable,We aren't going to agree and i can respect that.My head boss of my last job has both arms covered in tattoos.Doesn't seem to affect him on getting more business in.He's now in Corporate.Still moving up.... Now doing drugs is a different story and really shouldn't be compared to tattoos...because it's extremely dangerous and stays in your system. To be honest,i wouldn't want to work with a guy who's high or drunk either. That's a matter of safety.Tattoos ain't hurting anybody. That's how i look at it. Quote
basser89 Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 Well it seemed to take forever to get to my appointment date! I finally got in on thursday. I should have taken my camera long but completely forgot. Anyways, I'm really happy with how it turned out! Here's a pic of the finished product! Quote
preach4bass Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Wow! Those look like 10/0 hooks! If I got one on my arm like that they would have to use #6 hooks. Quote
basser89 Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 LOL! No preach4bass, they're not that big. They're about 7/0 though. The original pick was of 4/0 Gammys. To get it to scale so the hooks matched up, he had to go a little larger. Like I said before, I'm really happy with how it turned out! My only problem now is, having to keep it out of the sun for 2 weeks! Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 Very cool. I am so tired of seeing tribal tattoos that it's ridiculous. Yours is unique. Even the wife said it was cool. How are you going to keep from hooking your shirt sleeve though? Quote

How are you going to keep from hooking your shirt sleeve though? Thanks! I think I mentioned a while back in the thread, I'd been looking for a couple years now. I wanted exactly what you said, something different. Even the guy that did it said he's never seen any close to mine! I hadn't thought about the shirts! I hope I don't ruin my work clothes! ;D ;D ;D Quote
