I love blues and classic rock but I'm mostly a metal guy. Dismissing metal, or any other music style, because you don't enjoy it or understand it is disrespectful. I hate jazz music with a passion, but I realize that it is valuable and that jazz musicians are talented. There is a lot more to metal than anger and power chords. Most modern metal guitarist are very technically proficient, well versed in complex music theory, and draw from classical influences. Check out Abigail Williams if you want proof. I don't expect everyone to like it but I don't understand how you could deny that they are talented musicians

I'm really surprised to see so many extreme metal fans in here.

Use ignorant in a Sentence

adjective 1. lacking in knowledge or training; unlearned: an ignorant man.

2. lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact: ignorant of quantum physics.

3. uninformed; unaware.

4. due to or showing lack of knowledge or training: an ignorant statement.

I don't fit into this having studied, listened and played since I was 16,

There are a hanful of talented musicans playing metal. There is more to music than Teenange angst, power chords, double bass and the "dark side"

I could not agree more, that is why I am super picky about the music I listen too, I can't stand the stuff that is in drop A flat and just pure screaming. Some call this Nu-Metal I guess.

OH no no no no no no! Not Nu Mteal, Nu Metal IMO is garbage (not the band garbage). I dislike Slipknot,System of a down,Korn,Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. I like some very talented metal bands that have no turntables. Opeth and Between the Buried and me are just two examples. Listen to "Selkies the endless" by Between the buried and me. They have a hint of Rush in certain parts of this song.

Heavy Metal/Vocalist, now there's an oxymoron ;D

not quite, muddy, now if i had said heavy metal/singer, they'd be an oxymoron ;) ;D

Actually heavy metal and musican or vocalist are oxymorons, :-X

*MUSICIAN

*OXYMORON'S

Take into consideration that while you, yourself like jazz, played jazz & listen to jazz somebody else may see it as oxymoron. Everyone has there preference to what they include into there lifestyle. I myself prefer country, southern rock, & 80's metal. If the younger generation want to play power chords & heavy riffs so be it, just like its your choice not to listen. The fact is Rock N Roll was born from Blues & so was Jazz, Heavy Metal was born from Rock N Roll. The easiest way to learn all scale patterns is to take up Blues & Jazz. (Everything played now days has Blues & Country Origins) I have played the guitar for 15 years, in my studies it says no where that playing power chords isn't music, just a different way of playing a note. You playing music yourself should know that power chords all lead back to open chords & Barr chords in some relative manner. You of all people should know that Jazz itself has, & from time to time, is made up of simple power chords put together in a non-continuous pattern. In general take a look at Blues & the famous "King," BB King that is, & tell me that you cannot find simple power chords in the tablature or music notation. The fact is there are, & I can go on & on arguing your side & a heavy metal players side, but I think that I have made my point.

This is a new generation as to which everything evolves, new fades are born & yesterdays cliche' may not be today's popular vote.

That is what I was saying those bands are garbage, three power chords and you have a record....

The best metal bands (musically)

Damageplan

Black Label Society

Dream Theater

Ozzy

Just a few, there are many more

"drum solo of life"

True Heavy Metal is a blend of Rock and Classical music. IMHO, Judas Priest is the epitome of Heavy Metal. Glenn and KK can lay down some riffs that would make Bach jealous.
