Captain Obvious Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Play something Country To be exact new country, Brad Paisly, Emerson drive, Taylor swift, a little Keith Urban, and a heavy dose of Jason Aldean I'm good to go. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 23, 2009 Super User Posted July 23, 2009 Heavy Metal/Vocalist, now there's an oxymoron ;D not quite, muddy, now if i had said heavy metal/singer, that'd be an oxymoron ;D Quote
seyone Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Behemoth,Lamb of God,Emporer,Dark Throne,Hard Shell Case(local friends band),Between The Buried and Me,Pig Destroyer. I did not list these prior because most people (at least around here)have never heard of any of them. i have only heard of behemoth, between the buried and me, and i may have heard of pig destroyer. i find that most of these metal bands with terrible names (see above lol) have equally terrible music. no variety within their songs. each song sounds like the same riff constantly repated. i don't like that. too one dimensional for me. also their vocalists aren't worth poop. not saying this is the case for the bands you listed because i haven't heard any of their music, i'm just saying i find this is the case with a lot of metal bands that you don' t hear much about. Behemoth,Emporer, and Dark Throne are from Poland and Norway, I learned about them when I was overseas in the Navy. you have to want to like music like that, BELIEVE ME it is not for everybody. surprised to see a black metal fan in here. You should check out some early Burzum. Personally I am a huge fan of punk rock but listen to a lot of black metal, death metal, grind core, hard core, viking metal, folk, country and lots of other stuff Quote

seyone Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I love social D. If you like the Dropkicks then you need to check out the Street Dogs. They are really good and IMO the best live punk band around today. Quote

I honestly did not think ANYONE on here would know anything about that type of music. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 24, 2009 Super User Posted July 24, 2009 Opeth is pretty good. i'm not a fan of how long their songs are though lol. Quote

Is that the thing on youtube where these two dudes go to Norway and interview him and he takes them up a mountain in the snow to see a shack that his grandparents built? Gaahl is a strange man. He lives in a house with no electricity. Got arrested for kidnapping and torture. Quote
RobE Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I had to go with Classic Rock because the term is used so loosely these days. Where do you put Bob Dylan (after going electric) and Kris Kristofferson on the shelves at the record store? Charlie Daniels, in his formative years, could rock your butt off. Still can if he wants to but he's called Country. Jimmy Buffett kinda defies the 'lable' thing, too. Pure Prairie League? Amy! My head hurts. Quote
pa mountain man Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 If I were limited to one band, it would be The Who. Quote

Super User Muddy Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 i'm suprised nobody has picked Jazz... Big turmoil for me. While I love Jazz, as a fan when I played it was all Soul and Blues, so I chose Blues. I always had more fun playing than listening 8-) Quote

Super User Muddy Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 No joke and not ignorance young man. Years of playing and listening experience. I made my living from my teens to my early 40's as a musician, and I am OK with that statement Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 i didn't want to argue more about it because its obvious neither one of us will change the other's mind, but it is pretty ignorant. the vocalist in a metal band is using his vocal chords to make sounds (whether comprehendable or not ;D), that makes him a vocalist. the guys behind him are using instruments to play music (whether it sounds nice or not), that makes them musicians. the band as a whole writes and preforms songs, making them.....musicians. I don't fit into this having studied, listened and played since I was 16, There are a hanful of talented musicans playing metal. There is more to music than Teenange angst, power chords, double bass and the "dark side" Quote
billbrum Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I went Metal. I am a big fan of Metallica, Pantera, etc...the list could go on for days. A band one of my friends recently showed me was Alestorm. I really like their stuff. If you have never heard them, look them up on youtube. Quote
utser Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 polkas not listed? so gotta go with blues, especially bottleneck players. Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I love blues and classic rock but I'm mostly a metal guy. Dismissing metal, or any other music style, because you don't enjoy it or understand it is disrespectful. I hate jazz music with a passion, but I realize that it is valuable and that jazz musicians are talented. There is a lot more to metal than anger and power chords. Most modern metal guitarist are very technically proficient, well versed in complex music theory, and draw from classical influences. Check out Abigail Williams if you want proof. I don't expect everyone to like it but I don't understand how you could deny that they are talented musicians Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 ^ said it better than i could. Quote
