Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 IM on the market for a pistol. I know a lot about Single and double action revolvers have quite a few. Pros and cons of each ??? does a SAA have less moving parts then a DAA?? Quote
pa mountain man Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Revolvers are great in the sense that they are fool proof, but when they do have a glitch, its usually very bad. I carry a Ruger P94 .40S&W, I love the cartridge, but hate the gun, it's been nothing but trouble. I have several Ruger rifles that are great, but I will never buy another Ruger semi-auto handgun again. If you don't mind carrying a full frame gun, I recommend the .40, or 10mm. The 10mm is a little harder to find, but it is alot more powerful than the .40. I'd stay away from the 9mm, it is cheaper to shoot, but the 10mm was introduced in the 80's, shortly after crack's debut, because the 9mm was horribly under powered for the target. I'm a firearm collector, reloader, target shooter, and hunter, if you have a cartridge question, PM me and I'll try to give you a little info. Can't go wrong with a Glock, you can bury it in the sand for a year, dig it up and fire away. Mark Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 They are not the prettiest of guns but I like my Glocks. I have two 40 cals. I have put several thousand rounds through each one without ANY malfunctions. They are super easy to clean, only 4 parts. A rag and can of brake/carb cleaner is about all it takes. Quote

Mark if its been nothing but trouble id not carry it. i myself have never had a problem with ruger auto loaders. ive only had a few but they all worked perfect. also, for a defensive round the 9mm hardball isnt the worst idea ever. high cap. mags in compact autos make for a comfortable carry. Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted July 26, 2009 Author Super User Posted July 26, 2009 catt love that setup ...45 long colt talk about a fun round u can load um just for blinkin or bear Quote
MattinOK Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 One thing to think about is that the trigger pull on a DA is much higher than that of a SA. If carrying this pistol for self defense the high trigger pull might be bad. If you have adrenaline pumping thru your veins, your not going to remember a slow steady trigger pull, and likely jerk the trigger. Now since you have to pull harder on a DA you'll jerk harder, goofing around with your accuracy. Just my $0.02 Quote

Aaron Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I would get a 1911 .45. I have two of them one is a nightstand gun and one is my carry gun. They are very accurate, have great triggers, are reliable, and just plain feel good. I used to have a Taurus 24/7 .40, it was my first handgun and first carry gun. It was accurate, and reliable but I HATED the long DA trigger. I sold that gun. I have shot glocks and don't really care for them. The .40 is a good round but I just like the .45. Quote
