Tokyo Tony Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Hey guys, I just want to hear your thoughts about this, especially anyone who lives or has lived in CO. I've been in CT since 1998, and frankly, I'm getting (have gotten) sick of this state. The reason my family moved to CT is the public school system and my grandfather. I'm out of high school and my grandfather has passed, so I see no reason to stay. I'm considering a change...to Colorado, maybe Denver? What do you guys think about Colorado? Lots of outdoors stuff to do, beautiful place, nice city, lots of people my age (I'm 25). Pros/cons? How about cities other than Denver? Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Come on guys, I'm being super cereal! How do I unsubscribe? Quote
Dad_Golf_Fish Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I lived there several times after relocating from MA. Graduated high school there. Graduated college there. The winters kinda suck. Better trout fishing than bass fishing. Colorado Springs area. What more would you like to know? Quote
Olebiker Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I lived in Denver back in the mid 80s. I have never seen so many people and so few folks in all my life. Everyone acted like they were scared to death of each other. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted July 23, 2009 Super User Posted July 23, 2009 If you're going to move there, and I don't know why someone who bass fishes would want to unless you had no other choice, I'd definitely opt for the 'springs'. Other cities. Nashville Raleigh-Durham Richmond Birmingham Huntsville Knoxville If you can tolerate the heat and humidity, Augusta Savannah Tallahassee Jacksonville Gainesville Ocala Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 I don't know there's a certain allure about Colorado. Beautiful mountains, scenery, lots of outdoors stuff to do. How's the tax situation there? The bass fishing couldn't be much worse than CT. Plus I could get back into skiing. Love skiing. I'm just looking for a place to start fresh. Is Denver a good place? Super User cart7t Posted July 23, 2009 Super User Posted July 23, 2009 I've never lived there, been there many times. The city has changed, for the worse. Many move south and commute up I-25 or out towards Boulder. It's a great place if skiing is your deal. The train runs back and forth from Winter Park during the season. My brother lived in Co. Springs for a few years in the 80's, it's also boomed but not nearly like Denver. It still has a little of that charm it used to have. The Rockies are beautiful. Great place to visit, for me anyway. Super User roadwarrior Posted July 23, 2009 Super User Posted July 23, 2009 I'm just looking for a place to start fresh. Is Denver a good place? Living in Colorado is a privilege that I would never take for granted. We lived there for 17 years and loved every moment! It's not a bass fisherman's paradise, but there are many more attributes that make the state special. 8-) Quote
NewAngler Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I know I'm gonna loose all credibility for this since I don't lnow where I heard/ read it, but Vermont is supposedly the "nicest" (people wise) to live. Also have the most healthy people there, and I hear it can get pretty chilly up there. Quote
Dad_Golf_Fish Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 You can find some bass there, but you would have to go to Pueblo reservoir. Colorado Springs has a couple of small lakes (ponds really) with stocker rainbows for those times when you just have to fish. Other than that, I would hit any of the park streams on the way to Cripple Creek. Some really nice browns there. I was back there last summer for a family visit, and the first time back since 2000, and the east and north sides have just exploded. It used to be that the Air Force Academy was outside of town. Now it is just the north end. Every vacant field on Powers on the east side now has a shopping mall. I enjoyed my time there in younger years like my 20's and 30's, but it is no longer on our places we would consider moving to. Nothing really bad to say about it, it just no longer suits our lifestyle. I've made some throw the dart moves in my youth, but I would strongly suggest looking for things like jobs and housing first, and look at the recreational aspects after that. Quote
moby bass Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I lived in Greeley for 3 years. It was a nice place, 30+ years ago anyway. Don't know about now. There is lots to do in the mountains. I was never into skiing but ghost towns were a lot of fun. Some very interesting old towns in some very remote places. Weather was changeable. We used to say if you didn't like the weather, wait 5 minutes. Had a guy threaten to kill me once, but that's another story. Quote
