billbo Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Has anyone had any luck on chatter baits. I was told told they are easier than buzzbaits to fish. Let me know before I go buy a tacklebox full. Thanks Quote
djmax22 Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I became a believer last night. We emptied the tackle box for the first 3-4hrs. My partner tied on a Booyah Boogee then we started to pick up fish. I didnt even have a chatterbait in the tacklebox. I will always have a couple in the box now. Seems like a great night bait. Quote
Shad_Master Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 They definitely seem to be low visability lures - I have had good luck with them in the past (but not lately) in muddy water. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted June 20, 2008 Super User Posted June 20, 2008 They work, and in a lot more places and situations than many realize. Definitely keep a few in the box at all times. -T9 Quote
bkoguy07 Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 How do you work them?? Just swim them back or reel or what? Quote
Evan Pease Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 You can jig it, swim it, rip it, whatever. Let the fish tell you how they like it. Quote
rondef Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I just started really fishing them, I use the chatterfrogs. In the short time I have been using them (a little over a week) I have caught 20 lmbs. Quote

Super User Marty Posted June 20, 2008 Super User Posted June 20, 2008 Chatterbait-style lures are very good fish attractors for multiple species, not just bass. I don't try comparing them to buzzbaits, they're two different lures. Quote

Ron was kind enough to give me one on our last outing but didn't get the chance to try it out. Thanks Ron! Quote
bkoguy07 Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I bought a chatterbait and chatterfrog last night, how does he work the chatterfrog, on top kinda like a buzz bait? Quote
rondef Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I just throw it out and use a steady retreive and let the frog works its magic. This bass can't resist those legs and the vibration Andy, your welcome on the chatterfrog. Now we need to go out in the new canoe and catch some hawgs with them. Quote
The_Natural Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Booyah Boogie Bait in Cortez shad is one of my go-to baits. Quote

That's what I did. No it's more like a swimming jig that vibrates like a Rat'L Trap. I bought my first one day , actually I got the white/green Chatter Frog and caught a nice 21" LMB in clear water. He nailed it and a perfect hookset. Quote
bigmountaineer Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I bought a chatterbait and chatterfrog last night, how does he work the chatterfrog, on top kinda like a buzz bait? No it's nothing like a buzzbait. It doesn't even break the surface. You reel it pretty much just like a Rat'L Trap but let it sink and move around like a jig. It vibrates a lot and when I quit reeling and let it sink is when the bite happened for me. I think there is misconception out there that this baits are like buzzbaits they are totally different. Good luck on em, they work. Quote
bkoguy07 Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Ah, I didn't know it wouldnt break the surface, thanks for the tips! Quote
Bassaholic84 Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 It doesnt fish like a buzzbait but you can make it. When the fish are shallow try casting it and landingit slightly on the shore and burn it on the top of the water maybe five feet in and let it sink and they will nail it a lot of the time on the fall and if they dont just reel her back into you. I have been very succeful with that method, just reeling it in, and doing a stop and go retrieve where i would let it sit on the bottom for a second and then rip it. Rage Tail craws are exellent trailors. Quote
