I used to golf 2x a week on average. I gave it up when I got married and use it as an excuse to justify buying a boat, more rods and reels. When the wife says "$800 for another combo" then I say "babe, you're right. I'll start golfing again. $150 a pop for greens fee in season at twice a week is $300. Plus the clothes, balls, tips, food, etc." She then comes to her senses and backs off.

$150.00 for greens fees :o :o  Where do you play, Augusta? That's crazy. I'd never golf again if it was that much. Hit 18 yesterday w/cart for $16.00 and had a blast.

I like doing both.  A round of golf in the morning and a relaxing afternoon fishing or vice versa is a perfect day.

Wow. Fishing for me any day. Although my brother wouldnt agree, he say golfing.

How can you even compare fishing to golfing. Thats like comparing a dog to a cat.

GOOD LUCKS TO YOU IN CATCHING THE "BIG KAHUNA."

$300 per week golfing?  I would quit too if I paid that much.

Bottomline is that I think it is possible to enjoy both.  I will admit that I get more excited catching a big bass than getting a birdie.  I catch more bass that I score birdie.

For me, it took a long time to learn to bass fish and golf.  Learning to bass fish was harder than learning to golf.  It took a couple of years to learn to bass fish but it only took a year to learn to golf where I don' embarrass myself.

I'm going fishing in the morning.

I have a lot of buddies who play golf and fish.

But personally speaking, ANY sport which involves any ball, of any size, or shape, and hitting, kicking, or batting it around, is absolutely meaningless to me. If I live to be 100, ball sports will never make any sense to me.

Not only playing these sports, but even worse, watching somebody else play them !

It would be just as exciting for me to sit and watch paint dry.

To each their own though. The more guys on the golf course, the fewer guys in my way on the water ;)

Peace,

Fish

PS, But the thing that would REALLY kill me if I did golf, would be; Here I am hitting this stupid little ball around, and their is probably fish in that pond right there ! What the heck am I doing ?!?! To heck with this club... where's my pole ? ;)

Been there done that. At the place we buried my grandfather in Ohio there was a nice little pad filled pond back in the corner near his grave. I snuck in there a few times and fished it and it's all good because he is the one who taught me about fishing. ;)

Even though I believe golf is the greatest game devised by man, fishing still takes the cake.

Once I graduated from school, my competitive golf "career" effectively ended since it's almost impossible to play enough golf tournaments with a full-time job. I would play a couple times a week, then once a week, then less, and I had no desire to practice because there was no goal to reach, so I basically stopped. I play a couple scrambles and a two-man best ball tournament a year, with maybe a couple other rounds thrown in. I think I'd always rather be fishing than golfing anyway.

That's a reason why I don't want to fish competitively. I worry that if I ever started then stopped competitive fishing, that I wouldn't enjoy it as much afterward, and that would be unacceptable.

Although it feels great to kill a drive down the fairway, hit a knock-down wedge past the hole that spins back to a few feet, and make the putt, I don't think there's anything better in this world than tricking, setting the hook into, battling, and landing a big, strong fish. Fishing is awesome  8-)
