New Bass Man Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Man I love both. Choosing which to do can be very agonizing sometimes. Does anyone else have this issue? Quote
Captain Obvious Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Are you serious um your asking on the wrong website LOL Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 Both are capable of ticking me off. Both cost about the same. I'm much more happier fishing than I ever was playing golf. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I used to do both. Then one day, while waiting for a painfully slow group ahead of us tee off, I thought to myself "Man, I'd rather be fishing"...and it occured to me that I never went fishing and thought about being anyplace else. Now I only play about 3 or 4 times a year, usually when I visit my Dad, and that's about it. I don't miss it. Quote
Koop Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 My dad actually got me into golfing when I was about 6... I played for about 16 years, played in High school, won several state titles played on the USMC team. Got burnt out very quickly, was a scratch player for a long time. Just don't have the want to pursue it anymore. I played like I was going to try to make the tour, once I realized that was a pipe dream and more about who you know or who your family has connections to I became disgruntled with golf. Still play for fun on occasion but not nearly as regularly as I used to. I'd rather fish. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 I flip flop back in forth. For the past couple years .... golf has been winning. Although as of a couple weeks ago I have been starting to get the fishing itch again. I have a feeling come next spring it will be game on with fishing again. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 I've played putt-putt golf at funland a few times in my life.....That's about as serious as i take golf to be. I had a bad phase with paintball though.I got too old and realize those balls starting hurting more than i could remember they did. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 Quote "They call it golf because all of the other four letter words were taken" - Unknown. Golf messes with me. It gives me just enough decent shots to keep me from quitting entirely, then laughs in my face. Kind of like Lucy pulling the football away from Charley Brown. Quote
jimmieO Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I've played exacty 18 holes in my entire life, and spent about 4 total hours on the driving range. Long enough to learn that I hate it with a passion. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 I played golf for years until it finally occurred to me that I didn't have the hand/eye coordination to be anything more than a hacker. That's when I took up bass fishing. Anyone want to buy a set of left-handed Ping irons and a Big Bertha driver? Quote
New Bass Man Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 I meet alot of people who bass fish and golf. I find both mentally challenging. Was just curous. Thanks for the responses. Long Mike, I'm a lefty too. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I love watching a 7 iron fly within 8 feet of the hole but I hate putting. I was a solid player who could not putt to save my life. I still get a thrill off of playing golf, but I do not get the adrenaline rush that I do lipping a 5 plus lb fish. Golf never made me shake. Quote
Dad_Golf_Fish Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 The three things I love in my name: Being a dad, playing golf and fishing. My wife and daughter both play golf and my daughter loves to fish, so Saturday for fishing and Sunday for golf. Works out well for everyone. (also another lefty) Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 I used to golf 2x a week on average. I gave it up when I got married and use it as an excuse to justify buying a boat, more rods and reels. When the wife says "$800 for another combo" then I say "babe, you're right. I'll start golfing again. $150 a pop for greens fee in season at twice a week is $300. Plus the clothes, balls, tips, food, etc." She then comes to her senses and backs off. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 Golf? I've played a couple times. Minature golf counts, right? Quote
tnbassfisher Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I had a bad phase with paintball though.I got too old and realize those balls starting hurting more than i could remember they did. I have played both tournament paintball and tournament golf. Golf has always been the sport that I play the most up until this year. Since I was 11 or 12 I played nearly everyday that I could. I ended up getting really burned out on it, and don't want to practice nearly as much as I used to. Even though I did play today at a local par 3 course and shot even. 8-) Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 I started playing golf young, played competitively in H.S. and college, also always fished as well from age 4, I'm 64. I always played golf and in my adult life was a member of a club. Retired 6 years ago and moved to FLA, played almost daily for 2 years and bass fished in the afternoon. One day I strolled out to the pier and saw these guys catching these Jack Creveles, went right over to Sports Authority and bought a saltwater outfit and went back to the pier..........wow! Said to myself if I this out here why would I fish for bass, haven't picked up a club in 4 years. Limit my bass fishing to the afternoons and Jan thru March when the ocean bite is dead. 1 Quote

Eddie Munster Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I used to do both. Then one day, while waiting for a painfully slow group ahead of us tee off, I thought to myself "Man, I'd rather be fishing"...and it occured to me that I never went fishing and thought about being anyplace else. Fantastic way of putting it. I gave up golf when it started getting real expensive and I realized I'd never be as good as my expectations. I'd make a triple bogey on the first hole and feel the rest of the 5 hours would be wasted. I may lose a big fish on the first cast and feel disappointed, but I still have fun. Now I go maybe once a year, expect nothing and shoot in the 80s. I have a great time but I'd rather be fishing. Quote
bigtimfish Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 My dream is to win a s*** ton of money, Get a giant lake built by Ray Scott, And build 2 (1 PGA quality)golf courses around it. Open my own golf/fishing club. I honestly can not answer which one I like better. I love and hate them both the same. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted July 17, 2009 Super User Posted July 17, 2009 Golf is the excuse I use to do recon on the sweet ponds a golf course has to offer, with very little pressure. I have a natural slice to the pond, I use my 7 footer to retrieve bass, I mean balls from the water. Love fishing the golf course. Quote
nateobot Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I thoroughly enjoy both. I am much better at golf than I am fishing, but I also think of fishing as a more relaxing activity. If I don't catch any fish well, they just weren't hungry . Whereas if I shoot a poor score in golf, that is all on me. Quote
tyrius. Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Haven't even touched my clubs since I got back into fishing. I fished all the time when I was kid but then didn't fish at all in college and got away from it. Couple years ago my parents paid for a salmon charter on lake MI and the fishing has been on since then, while dust falls on my clubs. I never was very good at golf either. Quote
