I know there is a story behind the fact that when a thread gets locked the members call for Irene and tell her good night. Me being a newbee have not heard the story yet. Care to share it with me?

Its a Leadbelly song.  Roadwarrior always says "Goodnight Irene" when he locks a thread.

Its an old Irish song that they brought over if you want to know here's the lyrics

Irene, goodnight Irene

Irene goodnight,

goodnight Irene

goodnight Irene

I'll see you in my dreams

Didn't take a lot of imagination to think up  ;D

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight

Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene

I'll see you in my dreams

Last saturday night I got married

Me and my love settled down

Now me and my love are parted

I'm gonna take another stroll downtown

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight

Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene

I'll see you in my dreams

Sometimes I live in the country

Sometimes I live in the town

Sometimes I have a great notion

To jump In the river and drown

Irene goodnight, Irene good night

Good night Irene, good night Irene

I'll see you in my dreams

Ramblin' stop your gamblin'

Stop stayin' out late at night

Go home to your wife and your family

Sit down by the fireside bright

Irene goodnight, Irene good night

Good night Irene, good night Irene

I'll see you in my dreams

Irene goodnight, Irene good night

Good night Irene, good night Irene

I'll see you in my dreams

Irish?  I always thought this was distinctly American Folk.  Got any sources?  If its true, then I'm wayyy off.

Those are the clean lyrics. This is how the real Lead Belly version goes:

Last Saturday night, I got married,

me and my wife settled down

Now me and my wife are parted,

I'm gonna take another stroll downtown

Sometimes I live in the country,

sometimes I live in town

Sometimes I take a great notion,

to jump into the river and drown

I love Irene, God knows I do,

I'll love her till the seas run dry

But if Irene should turn me down,

I'd take the morphine and die

Stop rambling, stop your gambling,

stop staying out late at night

Go home to your wife and your family,

stay there by your fireside bright

Irene goodnight, Irene good night

Good night Irene, good night Irene

I'll see you in my dreams

Yeah I've only heard the lead belly version, I like it.  Going to have to try to find the older version now.

All I know is that my mom liked this Irish band that sang that song it was something like the greatest hits of Ireland so I just assumed that it was Irish sorry if I'm wrong.
