Super User Sam Posted July 14, 2009 Super User Posted July 14, 2009 have her ask the bank to forgive the fee. go into branch and see the manager. they can waive the fee if they want. have her open an overdraft account to stop any overdrafts. Quote

Super User grimlin Posted July 14, 2009 Author Super User Posted July 14, 2009 I had a supplier do the same thing once. Although there are 17 digits in the number, i'd bet someone tried to put the 16 digit card number in the machine when it was asking for the amount. (Not sure how long it would take to figure out...........but I do see a card expiration date............and a visa logo......) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D b (the more i think about it; if you really like your friend, you might do some more editing) Good point....I'll change it just in case. the numbers however are not related to the amount charged. Some sort of glitch in the system.I found another one online charged the exact same amount Quote

done Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 We had a local grocery chain (Winn Dixie) do the same type of thing. We had a $150 charge to our card, well it got ran 10 times and the retarded bank processed all 10 transactions. (Sounds like a for loop gone bad) We went fuming to the store. I was susprised, the manager was extremely understanding and I mean he stopped everything to deal with it right away. Turned out it was the bank that did it. They showed me they charged and got paid once. So I called the bank they fixed it right away. Happened again 2 weeks later, the guy on the phone at the bank said it would take up to 30 days to process the refund this time. I went to physical bank branch and yelled so loud security came out see what was going on. The second time, they basically emptied my entire checking account. The organic person refunded my money right away. I thanked her and then instructed her to write a cashiers check for all my checking, and savings accounts. I opened an account at another bank that day. To me when a merchant screws up that is one thing, they usually have low resources and a low knowledge of technology. I know from personal experience in quick service IT, they are the pure definition of shoestring budget on their IT systems. A bank however, exists to manage money and financial transactions. For them to royally screw up their systems like that and then refuse to fix them, unacceptable. Anyway, glad your friend got the money back without too much of an issue. Quote
