Super User burleytog Posted July 11, 2009 Super User Posted July 11, 2009 Got my paycheck Thurs. night at work. Opened the envelope to put another check in so I wouldn't forget to deposit it. Put that envelope on top of some outgoing mail and put it in my truck. Was quite brain-numb due to working on computers all night, so when I got home, I just grabbed the stack of envelopes and threw them in the mailbox. Got up yesterday afternoon, did a few things and went to get the checks to put them in a deposit envelope. Tore my truck apart, no check. Went to work to see if I had left it there, nothing. Then it dawned on me. I put the damned thing in the mailbox this morning. It was after 4:30, so the PO was closed. Talk about a long night... Came home this morning and hit the sack, left a note in the mailbox about the checks. Mail usually runs around 10:30-11 on Saturdays. I got up at 10:45, mail had already run. As luck would have it, my mailman is quite honest. The envelope and checks were in there. So now I'm going to fish an all-nighter on 5 hours of sleep. 5 Hour Energy don't fail me now! Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted July 11, 2009 Super User Posted July 11, 2009 I'll bet that mailman gets quite the Christmas card this December. Quote

Eddie Munster Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 2 words Direct Deposit Seriously. Can't imagine a world without DD or Debit Cards. I'm pretty much cashless at this point. Of course having a wife and two teenagers keeps me cashless anyhow. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 13, 2009 Author Super User Posted July 13, 2009 I wish direct deposit was possible. Would save me two hours of driving every two weeks. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 13, 2009 Super User Posted July 13, 2009 Wow! That was close. You have a great postal service guy. It is against the Post Office's regulations to give any postal worker a gift or present. A nice letter to the local post office's manager would me a nice gesture. Quote
NewAngler Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 But what you can do is tell him you'd like to send hom a card for christmas, and want to do it properly and get his address.. And... Ever hear of christmas in july? Lastly, ifit takes you two hours to go to the bank, you need a closer bank, faster car or all of the above. I bet you're on some nice land down there. Better than up here in NOVA. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted July 13, 2009 Super User Posted July 13, 2009 BL, I hate to admit it, but I did almost exactly the same thing several years ago. The post office came through for me also. Quote

A very honest waitress(one who served me) had saved it for me with not even a single dollar missing! She could have just kept it because i ate outside that day and i was alone but she didn't! She got a very generous tip that night! Quote
