Washers anyone ?

Who plays ? I know there are many variations of this game. My setup is the wooden boxes with the 4" PVC pipe in the center. We set them 25' apart. Each player gets 4 colored washers. Scoring is as follows:

In the box = 1 point

Leaner anywhere in the box = 2 points

In the cup = 3 points

Opposing colored washers in the box - closest to cup gets the point

Play is to 11 or 21 points, depending how long you want to play.

A good way to pass the time waiting for your team's turn at horseshoes. Also a good game for the little ones who can't quite throw shoes yet.

I have a washers game set that we take camping or with cookouts.  I like cornhole better and love to have a setup for a bunch of people horseshoe pits, washers and cornhole to have a few things going at once.

Alright, now that I brought up cornhole, yes I do expect funny comments.

Cornhole washers? Can't wait to see the responses there.  

Washers is a great game. I enjoy it much more than horseshoes and when comsuming adult beverages, there's less chance of injury.

It's been a while but as a kid we used to belong to a 75(?) family camping club. Washers was a given. We just dug Campbell's soup cans in the ground with the rim slightly below grade. We cleared the grass away from around the cup. I think I remember the same scoring as yours. Our "in the box only counted if within 1 washer length of the cup or less. I think we were closer than 25' though.

 I'm sure the distance isn't the same otherwise 4" PVC would seem like gravy compared to a soup can.

11-0 was a skunk otherwise you played to 21

 At around 5th grade I changed schools and the new school had washers as one of the end of the year outdoor challenge events.

 They used coffee cans from the same distance that we used soup cans! I could throw them in blind folded. I won a ribbon of some sort.

I have seen them like that, but we play one hole.  Officially the board would be 4 feet long, 3 feet wide and a 6 inch hole placed 3 foot up the board and centered with the width.  The front edge of the boards are to be set 27 feet apart so that you are tossing to a hole 30 feet away.  Similar scoring can be done.  Here you go:

I knew someone would have to make a comment sometime.  I want to get a ladders setup sometime too to have another option for get togethers.

Extreme Washers:

Miss the box completely = -1 point

Anywhere in the box= 1 point

Center 4 angled cups = 2 points

Front corner boxes = 2 points

Front corner cups = 3 points

Top rear center box = 4 points

Top rear center cup = 5 points

Rear corner cups (bank shot) = 10 points

Ringer on the post below the center rear box = Automatic Game Winner

First team to 25 (or minus 25) wins.

It started as a joke, a friend always complained that we didn't play by the 'official' washer rules, so another guy set out to make the most unofficial washers games ever built.  We went through a 12 pack just arguing about how to score it.

My buddy actually built two of these, then couldn't fit 'em both in the back of his pickup. We used 'em for one weekend, then gave them to the local 4H.

We call it Cajun horseshoes in Louisiana.

Must score exactly 21 to win.

If you go over 21, the points are deducted from 21 and you start over.

I refuse to play it anymore.

Slight variation on washers......

We used to use cow chips and a 55gal drum at 50 paces. You had to be good at throwing around the bs.

A friend of mine talks about washers from way back when he worked the oil fields in Texas. He said they sunk cans in the ground (or maybe even in the asphalt?) and tossed large, readily available washers into the cans. Says that's the only "real" washers game.

By the way, he was the inspiration for the extreme washers abomination we built.
